Would you let AI choose your make-up look? 🤔
Multi-disciplinary photographer
@yanavannuffel has recently been experimenting with using AI to predict futuristic editorial beauty styles and the results are both gorgeous and a bit unnerving, serving uncanny valley realness in a way that would never be achieved using just real-life products.
Yana’s first experience with photography happened when she was just 10-years-old, with her Dad showing how he could edit out her freckles in a family photo using Photoshop. Now aged 24, Yana uses a combination of both digital editing software and AI tools including Midjourney to question the limits of what beauty could actually be.
“I’ve come to accept it as another form of art, a new artistic method for expression,” she tells us. “It’s both a blessing and a curse as it offers so many new opportunities and accessibility of which we should take advantage.”
“We’re all aware of how challenging it is to accurately translate the visual ideas in our minds into reality. For this, artificial intelligence provides a huge advantage. Your imagination is the limit!”
Although she believes that technology will likely have a major role in the future of beauty and sees the positive of AI on a whole, Yana admits that artificial intelligence feels more like a popular trend - “similar to the Kylie Jenner lip challenge” - rather than a tool to be afraid of. “It has the potential to shape future society, but it cannot replace human emotion and creativity,” she explains.
