Nakba 2024
This painting sat upon my heart and built itself in my mind before I made it. The day I dedicated to making it was, unintentionally, the anniversary of the 1948 Nakba. The painting depicts a Palestinian keffiyeh pattern. Within the front left column of the pattern, FREE PALESTINE is spelled in sign language. The gestural hands interspersed with fringe on the deep edges of the canvas refer to resistance, pleas, prayer, peace, togetherness, community, and death.
I cannot move along as normal & be silent. Why can you? Everyone should be paralyzed by what is happening. Free Palestine. Free the (132 Israeli) and (3,000+ Palestinian) hostages. End the occupation. Down with empire. AND STOP JUSTIFYING THE SLAUGHTER OF PEOPLE. I am talking to YOU.

On the eve of international women’s day, a man snuck up behind me while I was walking my dogs at night, and the day after international women’s day, a local wealthy, white, influential “progressive liberal” man with whom I have 100ish mutual friends blocked me for stating a few political facts when he attempted to call me stupid. I was born a fighter and I will die a fighter. FREE PALESTINE. CEASEFIRE NOW.
