Wearing mom’s dress in grandpa’s homeland ♥️ It’s been awhile since I had a new adventure, and I’m so grateful to have taken this one with @lizasoberano and friends! Lots of laughter, tons of exploring, so many mango shakes and a couple gallons of sweat later, and I can honestly say that the Philippines now holds the permanent space in my heart that I’d always hoped it would. Can’t wait to get back! ♥️

I’m not sure precisely when I started to look like an impish English professor who moonlights as a wizard but I’m definitely ok with it. Photo by the lovely @shayan.asgharnia Hair and MU by @nancileesantos and @kmannmakeup

Another Lisa Frankenstein BTS bunch, in honor of it being available online ♥️ For those asking over the last couple days, the 80’s portrait studio photos of the family (you can see @lizasoberano ’s here) were originally going to be used for a fun credit montage, but it didnt end up making it in! Hopefully I can post them all one day, they’re so fun. The pup you see featured in them was also never in the movie, that’s actually Woody, who belongs to @paulahuidobro ! ♥️ He was the honorary set mascot.

As a little Valentine’s day treat, here are some of my own behind the scenes photos on @lisafrankensteinfilm ! There are many, many more, but I figured this would be enough of a photo dump for the time being without annoying anyone 😂 Also, a big thank you to all the weirdos who’ve found our wacky movie so far! We had an absolute blast making it, and I couldn’t be prouder of our little goofball collective. Frankencrew Forever! 🧟‍♂️❤️‍🔥

🧟‍♂️⚡️💋🥀❤️‍🔥 Still not sure it has sunk in yet that all this stuff is just “out” now, instead of existing as dozens of emails and texts behind the scenes. More to come very soon obviously, but til then, HOLY CRAP!

Clearly I’m aging out of understanding this app because I thought this shit was too long to post 😂 Lo and behold, here it is! In any case, the lookbook I made for this years ago referenced a lot of things: the comedic but gory ‘dead friend’ moments in An American Werewolf in London, the passionate love of color in Tie me Up! Tie me down!, how night was lit in Nightmare on Elm street, and how silent longing was shot in Edward Scissorhands. I talked about how much I loved Bub in Day of the Dead and Link in Encino Man. Young Frankenstein. Cry Baby. Rocky Horror. Frankenhooker. Death Becomes Her. So many of the movies I watch (and rewatch), I poured onto those lookbook pages and hoped to pour into this fun, vibrant film. Who knows if I succeeded, after a certain point you lose all objectivity, probably around the 200th watch while editing 😂 but I tried. And truthfully, I couldn’t be prouder that my first film is also the one thing I was personally most afraid to do: comedy. I got to face my fears, and pay homage to my heroes. Believe me when I say that everything else past this point is a goddamn bonus! And before any angry cinema purists jump in with “well this looks like it sucks”, no one’s forcing you to watch it 😂 no one has ever forced you. That’s the beauty of cinema, you can find, and love, whatever films you choose if you care to look. If this one’s not for you, all good, there are countless others that are, and you live in the time where it’s also easiest to find them all! I loved every single movie that helped me better understand this one, and am so grateful to every single film that will help me grow after it. I doubt I’ll get the chance to make anything this wonderfully wacky ever again, so forgive me if I ran with it. I bet you would too 😉

I know everyone on socials always posts the vertical version, but I just can’t do it! I love this ridiculous, fun, bubblegum colored movie too damn much to go and crop it! Here’s your first real peek at Lisa Frankenstein, my feature length directorial debut- but there’s so much more to come! 💜🧟‍♂️⚡️ Thank you to all the wonderful folks who took part in making this: my incredible cast, who cannot currently promote because the entirety of SAG deserves better and WE WILL GET IT, all the amazing crew in New Orleans (my lunchtime teamster cigar club- I miss yall!), Nayor and Coulon casting for finding so many wonderful folks, our superhero department heads who made this thing look UNREAL, the talented goofballs and FX magicians at @legacyeffects who brought you Creature (and some other surprises), cinematography wizard @paulahuidobro and her righthand dog Woody, my editor Brad and the whole fabulous post crew, Mason, Jeff and Michelle for producing the crap out of this, the amazing team at @focusfeatures , my absolute rockstar @iofferpoetry , @isamachine and @mallratbrodie95 for all the rocking music, and last but NOT least, the wonderful wordsmith and Wonderwoman, Diablo Cody. None of this would be here without you! I am privileged even just to know you all, let alone to have worked with any of you. Thank you a thousand times over ♥️ I started directing over 7 years ago now. To be here, putting my first teaser trailer out into the world at 34 is truly wild and humbling. So extra thanks to my sister from another mister @iamjojo , who is truly responsible for starting this journey by letting me direct the Save My Soul video all those years ago (and many others since), I love you forever. Also to @scottderrickson for endless advice and for letting me shadow your amazing brain on your own brilliant sets. To my incredible friends who have repeatedly championed me to keep going- I love you all so damn much! And finally, to Mom and Dad, for being my first teachers, my loudest cheerleaders, and my biggest inspirations, from above and beyond the grave. I am because you are. ♥️ Ok, enough mush! To everyone else- please enjoy our unhinged, undead lovers!

To have crossed the (production) finish line on my first film with all of you will remain one of the most joyful adventures of my life ❤️ thank you, a thousand times over, for all your hard work, and I hope to spend the rest of my career earning the respect you already so generously gave me. Frankencrew forever! X
