analog mixed media self portraits + a poem 💙
my latest investment has been purchasing a printer and my, what a game changer that has been. I’ve been printing out so many photos including some film ones from over the last few years (like this mountain shot I took in Wyoming on my big road trip last summer). just as I’ve come to adore the analog nature of film photography, I’m really enjoying the way having a printer allows me to get away from the screens and feel the real tactile process of cutting, gluing, etc. much more to come 🌀

Reflections on creating from the shadow prompted by girl, so confusing the version with @lorde by @charli_xcx 💚
This song (and several other moments throughout the brat album honestly) have shed light on/ been a good example for me of this concept of going further into the shadows and finding a way to creatively shed light on them. I think this is super interesting to think about as a creative and a human.

philosophers say a person creates art to make their external environment more at equilibrium with their internal environment. and i do feel that way about my creative practice — i believe that the paintings i conjure into existence are making this world more bearable, more fair and honest
modeling began as a creative outlet i honestly didn't anticipate achieving anything very meaningful with. and yet, when i look at the pictures after a shoot, i find myself transfixed, finding my own face and body unrecognizable, transformed into something new entirely.
when modeling, i bend and emote to fit into the circumstances i am placed in. in essence, i respond to my environment; a notable contrast from painting in which i make my environment respond to me.
i am learning there is a freedom in forming a space for yourself; there is also freedom in letting a space form you.

Description: “For this work, Leah, who often shoots boudoir portraits, turned the lens around and took some self portraits and then Rich, who specializes in figurative art, painted one of the portraits. They then ripped up the photographs and superimposed them on top of the watercolor painting. The result is a blend of layers, revealing Leah in multiple mediums, from multiple perspectives.”
Rich & I have shared a love for figurative work ever since we met, but we’ve never gotten to collaborate in this way until now. Although it was a bit edgy for me to share and display these portraits of my self, I knew this was exactly the way I’d want to do it. I love how it came out and now I really want to do more of this style of mixed media portrait with other subjects. ❤️🔥👀
