Six weeks until pub day, and the hype is real for Cheryl Clarke's Archive of Style! Clarke is a titan of Black queer feminist writing and activism and is known for her work with the Black Arts Movement, feminist publishers such as Kitchen Table and Firebrand Books, and the Combahee River Collective. Archive of Style is the comprehensive collection of Clarke's essays, poems, and written legacy. Clarke currently lives in Hobart, New York, where she owns and operates Blenheim Hill Books with her partner, Barbara J. Balliet, and a little bird tells us that Hobart is going to have quite the party when the book releases.

We have (mostly) recovered from Chicago Pride even if we were at turns sunburned and caught in a torrential downpour. It's all part of the process. But queer life exists beyond the boundaries of any one weekend or month, so we're turning to a few of our favorite books: Queer Tidalectics by Emilio Amideo and Sweet Tea by E. Patrick Johnson. One may be a scholarly literature analysis, and the other may be a play, but both are wholly immediate and necessary.

We're less than a month out from the publication of Michele Weldon's The Time We Have: Essays on Pandemic Living. As Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Julia Keller says, “Reading Michele Weldon is like spending a rainy afternoon with your best friend while sharing a few glasses of wine—but only if your best friend is smart, funny, thoughtful and inspiring. We all went through the pandemic, but Weldon paid attention and took notes. This bracing, eloquent, and moving collection is the glorious result.” Preorder your copy today!

Our Friday read is Thea Brown's Loner Forensics. The book is part lyric noir, part private procedural, and part speculative elegy as it follows the Detective, a character who investigates a city full of unexplained disappearances. #Poetry

For some reason, this week we want to think about Dostoevsky. There is no better time to revisit our Studies in Russian Literature and Theory (SRLT) series and discover all of the Russian-language books and culture (...and Братья) it offers. XOX -NUP
