This DIY filter experiment is what led us to become the FX filter company we are today! 🛠️📸🎥👇🏼 After launching our @prismlensfx company in 2018 with the world’s 1st mountable prisms @tom.taugher & I quickly knew we wanted to expand on the idea of building products for creating in camera effects. We started experimenting with trying to create unique and funky FX filters that you could thread onto your lens. This involved everything from cutting various pieces of glass and gluing them into unique broken design patterns making our original “Split Glass FX Filter” To smashing up pieces of dichroic glass and gluing them to the front of a Rotabale UV filter to create colorful bokeh refractions giving us our original “Prism FX Filter” To cutting and gluing a longer piece of dichroic glass to give us a makeshift colorful anamorphic flare and look called the “Chromatic Flare FX Filter” which we actually still sell to this day. These 3 FX filters paved the way for everything we make and do now. Unfortunately, we’ve since discontinued 2 of those 3 filters because they just felt like to much of an art project to us rather than a “professional” filter. But we know our OG supporters loved those filters... so we’ve been talking about the idea of possibly finding a way to bring them back. You’ve never seen a filter like this! 👀👇🏼 As you all know and have seen, we’ve been developing and teasing a new Magnetic Filter system for a while now and although, we were ready to launch a pre-order a few weeks ago we just weren’t quite satisfied & we ultimately decided to make a few last minute adjustments to the overall design of the magnetic Filters themselves. We’ve essentially improved the build quality and design by adding various grooves to the edges of the filters as well as a small protruding notch on the left and right of the filters to give you more control when rotating the filters or stacking and unstacking the filters. On top of that we’ve also added an even stronger magnet to improve grip strength of the filters themselves to ensure that they will not fall off your lens. This is a major problem! 👇🏼 There’s always been 1 continuous flaw when it comes to the world of VND’s and the companies that make them...and it’s that they’ve never catered to the true nature of a cinematographer. For the longest time, we could not understand why filter companies never implemented traditional cinema stops & markings into a variable ND filters along with some other frustrating problems/issues as well. With our frustrations 2 years ago we built & launched the 1st ever VND that implemented these traditional Cinematography Markings along with some other core features that we wish we had in VND’s we were using at the time such as front and back facing threads so that it was stackable, hard stops at each end so that you couldn’t overcrank the filter leading to that ugly X vignetting and so forth. The previous model with stops ranging from 0.3 to 1.5 was great but it also wasn’t enough... When you’re shooting outside on those extremely bright days and want to keep that shallow depth of field like a T2 or 2.8 you need ND’s with a little more stops...so with that being said we’re excited to add this new variant to the CIne Hardtop VND lineup of ND strengths 0.9-2.1 (3-7 ND stops & range) ➡️ Comment “VND” for a more detailed look at this new version of our classic Cine Hard-Stop VND filter! & remmeber to #KeepItInCamera with @prismlensfx #photography #cinematography #videography #filmmaking #filters #prismlensfx #VND #ndfilters
