In June I had the privilege of speaking on a panel for @the519 on the current rise in anti-2SLGBTQ+ hate. Since then things have continued to escalate with politicians using language that criminalises our community & utilizing our legal system to repeal bodily autonomy from children. In my line of work, I’ve been colossally privileged to work so closely with my community. It’s taught me the life-saving impact that community, representation, & support has on youth, adults, & elders alike. This transphobia & homophobia cannot be taken lightly- these policies & rhetoric will cost us precious lives whether that be by encouraging violence towards our community or making people feel like there’s no hope for them. Please stand with our community by speaking out against this hate 💗 - speak to your friends & loved ones - contact your political representatives - engage with your community groups & schoolboards There’s not a single life that’s worth losing over staying silent, I urge you to be as loud as possible. Since sharing things online was causing consistent limitations, I decided to work in person to raise funds & donate all the tips I earned throughout Toronto Pride month. I'm sending the deepest thank yous to everyone who tipped me this month whether they knew where it was going or not, to everyone who ran to the stage to hand me bills when they learned where the money was going, to those who walked up to me after shows to make sure their donation was added, the list goes on.
