Two rescue Airmen assigned to the 48th Rescue Squadron were awarded a Bronze Star Medal on Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., June 7, 2024.
“Facing opposing armed forces while operating in a base under siege, surrounded by hostile enemy forces, exposed to extreme danger, and continuous small arms fire, indirect fire and improvised explosive device attacks,” both the CRO and aircrew flight equipment NCOIC went above the call of duty, their citations read.

Base leaders visited the 563rd Operations Support Squadron and learned how to do the day-to-day jobs of the enlisted Airmen to gain insight into how their work is crucial to the mission.
DM held a memorial service on May 31, 2024 to honor Tech. Sgt. Quinn Truitt who proudly served since 2018. He was a member of the 944th Fighter Wing, serving as an Air Reserve technician with the 924th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron.

Brig. Gen. (retired) Clarence E. “Bud” Anderson, the last surviving triple ace pilot from World War II, passed away peacefully May 17, 2024 at the age of 102.
“Brig. Gen. Anderson’s leadership and command of the 355th Tactical Fighter Wing was instrumental in our nation’s past conflicts,” said U.S. Air Force Col. Scott Mills, 355th Wing commander. “Today the 355th Wing remembers and honors both the individual and his service to the nation.”

A Black Letter Send Off
“A ‘black lettered’ aircraft indicates that there is nothing wrong with it,” said Capt. Anthony Laporta, 943rd MXS director of operations. “I personally have been in the Air Force 19 years and have only seen it one other time. Most of these models have always carried a discrepancy.”
An HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter, tail number A6224, maintained by U.S. Air Force Tech Sgt. Anthony Staley, 943rd Maintenance Squadron crew chief, and Senior Airman Harley Straps, 943rd MXS assistant crew chief, achieved a “black letter status” before its retirement at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., May 6, 2024.
