“𝐁𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐝 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐭 - 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞” 𝐛𝐲 𝐑𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐥
My mom was always taking photos. We’d grumble the entire time, but mom would just say, “you’ll thank me for taking these one day!”
Reading the pages of Mother draws me back to thoughts of my own mother and her photographs. Her images tell the story of her life. What she loved. What she wanted to remember. What she wanted us to remember.
The women who contribute to Mother magazine come from all corners of the globe, each with a unique perspective, shining a spotlight on places, people, and animals most of us will never experience. They remind us of what’s truly important:
Connection: to our past, to each other and to Mother Nature.
We each create our lives through our own singular lens, filtered by our experiences. Every story, every photograph stands in tribute to them.
We share stories with each other to inspire action, spread love, give hope, show empathy, remember, pass on knowledge and to connect.
My mother’s love of photography spilled over onto me and inspired me to document what I love and share my stories. Mother magazine gave me a direction: nature conservation.
I have strongly believed in Melissa’s project since its inception. The first volume, with a forward by Cristina Mittermeier, was a revelation. A call to action. When I discovered Mitty was going to give a presentation nearby, I knew I had to take my youngest girls and Mother Magazine with me.
Mitty was thrilled to see Mother Magazine. “We have to take a photo of this for Melissa!”, she said. So we did! A full circle moment for Mother and Melissa. A motivational moment for me to continue on this path and inspire my daughters to protect our beautiful planet as well.
Mother Magazine challenges us to raise our voices and use our talents to protect and honour the natural world and all of its inhabitants. It takes a village, they say. Come join us!
To my Mom, Melissa, Mitty and the amazing women involved in Mother Magazine: Thank you for taking the pictures and sharing your stories. 💜📸 They’re so much more than ink on paper.
