In 1872, two giants of French poetry, Paul Verlaine and Arthur Rimbaud, moved to London together.
For the last few years, I have been researching their London lives. I saw the city through their eyes and followed them into secret parts of London. I pored over their letters, immersed myself in their texts… and found traces this hidden world has left into their poems…
Today, an introduction of my research has been published in the new issue of Parade Sauvage, a groundbreaking journal dedicated to Rimbaud.
Seeing my name in its pages is an incredible feeling, I don’t think I could be more proud!
It started with a strange idea.
A persistent question about a poem, that I couldn’t see an answer for, so I started looking for one.
It led me on a quest into the margins of Victorian London, following in the footsteps of two French poets who made the city their home for a season.
In a few weeks, it will result in a literary journal article, presenting my research, and sharing some of my discoveries.
It is both very exciting and utterly terrifying!
