@iamrobstone worked promo for
@thenotoriousbig during his days at
@aristarecords , and was a huge contributor to the success of the album Ready to Die. Also put time in at
@emirecords before that, making sure his artists made stops at me and
@stretcharmstrong ’s show. This was all before he co-founded
@thefader and
@cornerstoneagency to help elevate artists post 2000. Music industry aside, “Rawb” and I were brothers bonded by our mutual love for b-ball, both as opponents and teammates in various tournaments. I used to joke around with him that he never beat me in our annual 1-on-1 battles back in the ‘90s, but he’d snap back, “Yeah, but I ripped you and punched your jumper at least once every single time we ever played, and I’m a soccer player so, how you feel now?!” He wasn’t lying, either! On 9/11, we lost our mutual buddy Stephen “Zip” Mulderry at the Towers, which brought me and Rob together even closer. The following summer of 2002, we both suited up for Stephen’s old squad Zip City at Ham-Fish on Pitt St in the LES. We both missed his presence, though, and now, I’ll miss Rob’s as well. Learned that he passed away last night. Had NO idea he had medical conditions. He’d been DMing me for months, sending me highlight reels of Rolandinho, making no mention of his wellbeing. Sh*t, man. Rest in beautiful power my brother. Tell BIG and the Zipper I said whaddup…
