Funny story. I was supposed to launch this brand last year, but God was cackling at my plans. Every problem I tried to fix on my own in the months leading to our desired Black Friday Launch date simply could not be fixed 🤷🏾‍♀️. Introducing @vanebylv , a self-care brand developed by @lynaevanee for modern folx who seek a healthy balance between self and society. While VANE is a brand designed with Black Women at the helm, it is a brand that looks towards a future of self-preservation, wellness, and self-awareness for anyone who has ever had to function as a cornerstone in their community. Mental health is highly coveted in a world where mental fatigue and burnout have become commonplace. VANE seeks to embrace the concept of vanity to achieve this, though it typically bears the negative connotation of overconsumption with self over the consideration of others. However, with VANE’s tranquil, grounding aesthetics in addition to its holistic approach to the user’s sensory experience, it encourages everyone to engage self-care as an intentional — revolutionary — measure of reclaiming their time. VANE centers “self” to combat the ever-pressing urge to pour from an empty cup. #bevane darling. You deserve.

BLACK HISTORY FACTOID*** Rice plantations, positioned primarily in the South Carolina marshlands and their surrounding islands, are the only region were enslaved people were allowed to maintain, store, and preserve their west African cultural traditions. You may know these islands, the “Gullah Gullah islands.” Working conditions were so dangerous on these plantations, that white people made little interference. They allowed enslaved people to work under a task based system. If they got their quotas, they would be left alone for the most part. However, the average lifespan for an enslaved person working one of these rice plantations was only seven years. So the while they received a great advantage, they paid a great price. So I am honored that the stars aligned and allowed me to meet the women of Passage Products for me to develop the anchor points of my self-care brand @vanebylv . Today is Crown Day, or Black Hair Independence Day. Two years ago I was asked to do a shoot with @pleasurehauz to share some of my story. The platform itself centers women’s pleasure, in all of its forms, as an act of resistance. I readily accepted the invitation. My story was one of the reclamation, ownership, and becoming the arbiter of my own body as is with many survivors, but that’s not where the representation ends. Creative director and Founder @seekingsyn sought to show that same sort of reclamation and ownership in the styling and placement of my hair. Allowing it to take up space, defy norms, rules, and regulations, my hair m makes a nod to the protection, honoring, and uplift of black hair— pushing boundaries against policy and procedure, championing autonomy. 📸: @khalovisions

@speedymorman and @lynaevanee thought they could get their fellow #BETCultureClass teammate off game, but if you know anything about Big 4️⃣, she is quick on her toes! @flaujae sits in the “Hot Seat” and gets tested with some hot questions, but of course, she passed with flying colors.
