Today is Crown Day, or Black Hair Independence Day.
Two years ago I was asked to do a shoot with
@pleasurehauz to share some of my story. The platform itself centers women’s pleasure, in all of its forms, as an act of resistance.
I readily accepted the invitation.
My story was one of the reclamation, ownership, and becoming the arbiter of my own body as is with many survivors, but that’s not where the representation ends.
Creative director and Founder
@seekingsyn sought to show that same sort of reclamation and ownership in the styling and placement of my hair. Allowing it to take up space, defy norms, rules, and regulations, my hair m makes a nod to the protection, honoring, and uplift of black hair— pushing boundaries against policy and procedure, championing autonomy.
