As salmon return to the coastal forests and mountain streams of North America in the summer, the sudden rush of life draws brown bears from across the landscape. It’s a vital time to pack on calories before the winter’s return and I’ve spent endless hours watching bears catch fish after fish from the frigid currents. I love looking for unique angles and compositions full of movement and detail. Images that capture emotion and drive us closer to our wild kin become catalysts for a deeper connection to nature. This image has been protected by @overlai.app . it is not available for any Al training. #ProtectedbyOverlai #TheHumanMovement

Being among the first to test @sonycine ‘s new Burano with @scott.portelli was a gift in itself. However, collaborating with @_bugdreamer_ , @Mitty , and the legendary @chivexp , all while helping to protect one of the world’s most endangered whales, brought the experience to a whole new level. Visit the link in my bio to watch the newest Behind the Shot episode ‘Southern Right Whales: An Unforgettable Encounter.’ In the end, we returned home with a deeper appreciation for the ocean’s wilder, more mischievous side and the footage needed to advocate for its protection. Last week of @100fortheocean ! All of the prints above from my fellow artists are available to purchase until June 30th with 100% of the proceeds going to ocean conservation. At its core, ‘100 for the Ocean’ is about sharing the beauty of our planet through 100 lenses and reminding each other that changing the world does not always need to be some drastic sacrifice. It can be as simple as gifting beautiful art to your loved ones while supporting the invaluable work of people who care deeply about our planet’s future. Every piece you take home from one of our gifted artists protects the ocean – the biggest support system of all life on Earth. Visit the link in my bio to browse the prints before June 30th when the fundraiser officially ends. A year ago, we had the lovely @katiecouric and @johnmolner on the @Sealegacy 1 to talk about ocean conservation. We are incredibly proud to call them dear friends but that does not mean that Katie is going to shy away from asking the hard questions about climate change when we are on stage together at the @aspenideas festival tonight. Our panel is from 7 to 8pm.. We are going talk about our search for hope in the face of climate change. Do you have hope when it comes to the future of our planet? Video by @mitty

‘Spirit Dreams,’ ‘Northern Pride,’ and ‘Emperor’s Way’ - my three contributions to the @100ForTheOcean print fundraiser (link in bio) available for purchase until June 30th. All proceeds go to ocean conservation through the vital work of @coralgardeners , @oceansinitiative , and @youngoceanexplorers . We are just about to start the last week of the fundraiser, and I just want to thank every person who has purchased a print for yourself or your loved ones. Over the decades I have learned that extraordinary things come from the collective impact of small actions by ordinary people. These everyday acts of kindness, generosity, courage, and love create the foundation for a better future for humanity and our planet. Thank you for joining the cause, taking home beautiful art, and standing for our ocean. Visit the link in my bio to shop the newest prints until June 30. #wildlifephotography #wildlifeprints

So much of the wild beauty still left here in Canada is thanks to the steadfast protection by First Nations people, the original stewards of the land and sea. Wildlife like spirit bears survived the greedy frenzy of the fur trade after First Nations communities, who have long considered the bears sacred, kept their presence a secret. In honour of Indigenous Peoples Day, please head over to @coastalfirstnations and get behind the movement to protect what is most vital to all of us — the health and future of our living planet. It is long past time we honour the legacy of the people who have fostered and respected nature’s balance for generations. Filmed with my good friend Marven Robinson (@gitgaatspirit ) and the Gitga’at First Nation. #indigenouspeoplesday

Repost from @williamshatner and @pacificwild / Salmon farming is one of the most toxic agricultural industries in the world. Not only is the fish produced from open-net farms filled with chemicals, they also leach diseases, parasites, and waste into the environment. They are killing all of our wild salmon and they need to get the f*ck out of our waters. Send a f*cking letter through FOFF.ca and let the government know open-net pen salmon farms need to get out today — not five years from now. #FckOffFishFarms #FOFF #WildSalmon

@mitty captured the first image of me above taking in the reality of coral bleaching across Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. Working on the front lines of conservation, I have seen firsthand the devastation of our planet. However, for every coral reef that has succumbed to rising ocean temperatures, I find another slowly regaining its former vibrance. Each time a kelp or coastal forest is lost, a new marine park is established. Protecting our planet can feel like running in place, but the decisions we make today will guide future generations long after we are gone. I am honoured to be part of @Rolex ’s Perpetual Planet initiative alongside our ocean’s great champions like @dr.sylviaearle , @toutiess and his @coralgardeners team, and coral expert @emmafcamp . Despite the destruction and pain, there is still so much beauty worth fighting for on this planet, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure the legacies we leave behind support a world teeming with life. #rolex #perpetualplanet

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads and father figures raising the future stewards of our planet. Given the uncertainties facing the world today, nurturing the next generation with empathy, resilience, and kindness gives them the tools to create a better future for people and wildlife. We owe it to the guardians and caregivers out there for shaping the path towards a healthier world through the love and strength they bring to it. #gratitude #FathersDay

Ever get the feeling you’re being watched? I could just make out the faint stirrings of life in the blank canvas of snow before I suddenly found myself staring into the eyes of a 6-pound Arctic fox. Small, light, and incredibly agile, Arctic foxes are true masters of camouflage and stealth. Each year they shed their brown coats for winter whites through a seasonal molting process, blending in seamlessly with their surroundings. They are known to follow in the footsteps of polar bears for any morsels left behind, treading silently like ghosts. It is in moments like this where I find myself holding my breath for two main reasons –  to avoid frosting up the camera’s viewfinder and to make the experience last.

‘Sea Tribe,’ ‘The Waiting Game,’ and ‘Pacific Dance’ - a few of my favourite prints from my home here in British Columbia / After weeks at sea, returning home for the summer is always a much-needed break to recharge. @Mitty and I have been spending a little time in the evergreen forests just appreciating the solitude of life on the outskirts of civilization. Getting lost in the sounds and smells of nature is a special kind of tonic, and I am fortunate to never have to go far to reconnect with the land and its wild inhabitants. From coastal wolves, to black bears born solid white, to the sleek and finless forms of right whale dolphins, there is no shortage of unique and breathtaking wildlife in Canada’s wilderness.  Visit the link in my bio to view my print catalogue and explore more of my work from around the world.

‘100 for the Ocean’ brings some of the world’s most celebrated photographers and artists together to protect what is most vital to all of us – the health of our blue planet. The premise is simple, yet powerful: you can help support vital ocean conservation efforts while taking home beautiful prints from 100 of my award-winning colleagues. Every print purchased from now until June 30th will go directly to restoring critical ocean ecosystems, protecting vulnerable habitats, and empowering future generations to become stewards of a healthy planet. For me personally, this whole initiative is my selfish way of bringing together a community of people to protect what I love the most – nature and all the wildlife I have photographed for the last 30 years.  Please visit the link below to browse the prints, share the beauty of art with your friends and family, and let your impact shape the future of the planet. @100fortheocean Prints featured above: ‘Double Orcas’ by Jens Wikström (@wikstrom_photography ), ‘A Spark of Potential’ by Brooke Shaden (@brookeshaden ), my own contribution ‘Northern Pride,’ ‘Olobor, In Memoriam’ by Marina Cano (@marinacano ), and ‘March of the Titan’ by Shaaz Jung (@shaazjung )
