🪻Good Morning Everyone🪻 As the exhibition's over at @nebyula.rosastern , I wanted to share one aspect I'm really happy about. As you know by now, this show was about community and explore a horizontal within it. The problem with that is that, at one point or another, you'll have to acknowledge that you are in a power relationship with the public. Viewers have been molded into passive and obedient subjects who receive the "right" information from an institution or the artist themself. It ranges from explaining the work to not touching it. But isn't it contradictory, when the show is about them and their place in their community? . So for me, it was very important to create a space where you could transgress this hierarchy, to give a space for the silly, the compassionate, the personal, the hidden, in short, the individual presence. . Here are what people wrote during the show, and I just really love it. . . photos by Dirk Tacke #thankyou #artnews #installationartist #installationview #conceptualart #art #contemporaryartist #installationart #newmediaart #3dart #conceptualartist #thankful #exhibition #digitalart #artist #contemporaryart

Documentation of “Flowers For Theodore” by Montreal-based artist @pierre_chaumont in collaboration with @artistinresidencemunich Villa Waldberta. The show is on view until 5 May! (By appointment) “Loukanikos, the stray dog that became famous for joining anti-austerity protestors in Greece a few years back, has died, according to I Avgi, a left-wing daily newspaper in Greece. The dog, whose name translates directly as “sausage,” has probably been the most prominent single participant in Athens’ riots, especially between 2010 and 2012. He made it as a runner-up in Time’s person of the year 2011. He was a media darling two years ago, provoking regular admiration from the small army of journalists sent to report on the eurozone’s crisis from Athens. Loukanikos died this week, according to I Avgi, following health troubles that some people believe stemmed from his repeated exposure to tear gas. Loukanikos was probably the most photographed participant in Athens’ years of riots and protests. Even if you’re not sure if you know Loukanikos, you have almost certainly seen him in a picture of Athens’ riots. He was usually found in the thick of the action, at the front of the crowds. In fact, he often went where other protestors dared not. It’s no surprise that Lou-kanikos was exposed to quite a lot of tear gas during the clashes. And he never made it difficult to work out whose side he was on. There’s some confusion between Loukanikos and other riot dogs, several of which tagged along with various unions, left-wing and anarchist groups during the protests. There’s some confusion between Loukanikos and other riot dogs, several of which tagged along with various unions, left-wing and anarchist groups during the protests. The dog became a favorite of many foreign and European correspondents, covering the eurozone crisis. Greek media reported that Loukanikos was adopted in late 2012 and that his rioting career had ended. It’s almost impossible not to spot him in photos of the Athens riots, which themselves became a symbol of European austerity and will undoubtedly feature in the history books for centuries. Gone, but not forgotten.” Photos @atelier.tacke

🐶🪻Good Morning Everyone🪻🐶 So, as I told you in a previous post, my last residency transformed the way I produced work until now. What I thought would take the form of a complete game has now been strip down of all the "video game" elements to go straight to the things I wanted to test, in terms of participation. That been said, I now have a lot of 3D models that won't be used or that will not be part of the basic narrative of my experiences. So just for fun, I reviewed all I've done until now, and discovered that I never integrated some of the big modeling I did. One example is this mausoleum that was supposed to be the pinnacle of the visitors' gaming experience. It took me a month to make and I've actually never put it in the game engine. I decided to test it just for fun, I am just so happy about the result. As an artist, you're always looking for the next work, the next side of your creation, and you forget some projects as soon as they are done, but it is nice to see that along the way you've made some pretty cool little things! #gameready #3dmodelingandrendering #3dmodelingisfun #3dmodelingshowcase #architecturedesign #architectural #architecture #3dmodeling #digitalartist #digitalartwork #conceptualart #art #contemporaryartist #installationart #newmediaart #3dart #3d #conceptualartist #digitalart #artist #contemporaryart

🪻🐶Hey Everyone🐶🪻 I am now back home in Montreal, and I wanted to share with you some images of the opening party and workshop of Flowers For Theodore @nebyula.rosastern . This show was designed to resemble a funeral, and all through it, I had this question in mind: "What is left of communities when one of its pillars disappear?" Plus, this exhibition is also marking the opening of a new venue for the hosting space. I knew from the get-go that I needed to put the public at the center of this, while at the same time situating them within my series. . The answer came from one word: presence . Presence of the public and of Theodore within the exhibition's walls, but more importantly, making it visible to all. The dog's presence comes through the obituaries released by news outlets from around the world, and through the mini-games highlighting some of the key events (plus a little extra). Actually, the games are a mix between projection, as you embody another stray dog, and education, as some video archives are used to explain the rules. . The community's presence comes then. Surrounding the games, the public was invited to write on the walls, whatever they wanted, and it led to a mix of thank yous, dog drawings, and usual graffities you'd find in a city. Kids and adults alike took colored pen to do so, and are invited to continue until the end of the exhibition. Finally, on the central wall, there is a live simulation of flowers. These are interacted with through voice, which can only be understood through a small UI. If no one is there, they slowly die away, but as soon as a conversation starts, like a digital water, they come back to life. Each and every one of them withers at a different speed, highlighting resilience of communities. . I also placed in the space food and water for any dog coming. Otherwise would have been odd 😉 #FlowersForTheodore #conceptual #art #newmedia #loukanikos #contemporaryart #digital #conceptualart #exhibition #community

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT . 🪻🐶Dear Everyone🐶🪻 . . Loukanikos has died. Our beloved dog, born Theodore, has left us peacefully while sleeping, as you all probably know or heard by now. He dedicated his whole life for us, selflessly, protecting us from the riot police during protests. It is our turn now to come together and give a proper goodbye to the one that loved us more than we could have ever loved him. No need to bring anything, don’t worry we took care of everything, we just need you to come and help us make the final arrangements so we can place the final flowers for Theodore. . FLOWERS FOR THEODORE-----OPENING PARTY @nebyula.rosastern . March 22nd, 2024 18:00 - 23:00 Nebyula / Rosa Stern Space ---- Schleißheimer Straße 42, Munich . . 🪻🐶Good Morning Everyone🐶🪻 Since I arrived in Villa Wadlberta, as you might have noticed, there has been quite a long silence from my part. I have been thinking about a way to present "Flowers for Theodore" differently. Until now, there was a strong focus on the gaming side of this work, but I was struggling to envision an experience that didn't end up in an arcade-like situation. And then this piece came, which solved a lot of my questions. I can't explain it now (because I'll present it in a month), but what I can say is that it freed and refocused my vision on this corpus. It brought me back to the core of two things: the analytical gaming framework and conceptual art. Until now, with this series, I have leaned toward a process nearer from a game developer than from the one of a conceptual artist. I guess it's the result of my recent training, but I was aiming at creating a continuous, all-encompassing, and enclosed experience. The problem with this approach is that it is technically heavy, time-consuming and restrictive in terms of digital accessibility (physically and on the side of familiarity with the medium.) Changing this mindset allows me to work in a modular way and get the public's feedback quicker. I tested this work last week during an evening presentation Artist in Residence Munich, Villa Waldberta & Ebenböckhaus, and it was quite a hit. It is deceptively easy to make (took me less than a day to make, and less to fine-tune it), but people kept coming back to it. It reminded me that technical prowess is rarely a vector for good experiential work. 🎉Hey Everyone🎉 I guess it's the time when everyone shares their yearly recap, so I'll have a go at it! You know, in Japan, it is believed that every 12 years is your lucky one, and as I just lived my 3rd one, I do have to say I was blessed with a lot of amazing things. 4 festivals, 2 symposiums, 1 scientific publication, and a grant would be a quantitative way of putting it, but that wouldn't even give you a proper scope of the moments I had the luck to be part of. In London, I witnessed the most chaotic (and well guarded) McDonalds I've ever been to, accompanied by the amazing @augurgraphics @devils_in.the_details and @lmpiercebooks . In Cyprus, we landed at 3am, after a shisha, in a café where we danced traditional Greek dance with @pedro.gil.farias while being supervised by the talented @ryancherewaty and @in.dialog_st . But all the great moments were not only IRL but also URL. I remember laughing to tears in front of my computer during the @immaireland summer school while creating a fake conspirationist art biker gang with @ladymuckbet that included all the other participants. Finally, I was able to find a way to give back to my community. With the greatest @kokomonster5 , we created @projetlitote , and through it, we were able to collaborate with (again) amazing people for the @thewrong.biennale I couldn't mention all of whom I've met this year, but I'm sincerely grateful for crossing your paths, and I hope to see you sooner than later. Until then, take all care of yourselves, of the ones around you, and I wish you the brightest 2024 the sun can give you. Sincerely ❤️
