An @olsonkundig -designed holiday home might just be what we need right now. Their latest project takes us, unusually, to the idyllic shores of Dalarö, a small town to the south of Stockholm. It’s a rare cross-Atlantic work for the US studio, who have melded their elevated take on ranch and outback style with Scandinavian typologies to create this home. Simple summer cabins are a big influence here, combining with large glass expanses and dark timber on the coastal overlooks, while reflecting the falun red tones of most local houses with a pigmented wall. Inside, the dark tones are classically Olson Kundig, a contrast to most Nordic interiors and achieved with oak instead of pine, but one that creates a deep sense of cosiness and intimacy in the summer, creating a distinction from the remoteness of the coast outside. MILANO HEROES: Associazione Salumi e Vini Naturale (@a____svn ) 🍷🥓 “Known as ASVN to its regulars, this wine bar offers around 700 bottles either for purchase or for on-site imbibing on the terrace, downstairs, or in a bucolic back area surrounded by ancient walls. Founder Davide Martelli has taken ASVN a step further than most with a menu entirely dedicated to natural, biodynamic, and orange wines. There isn’t even a spritz on the menu, in fact, there isn’t even really a menu; curiosity leads the way here, and guests are expected to chat to their knowledgeable servers, or play a game of roulette with the small-batch bottles that line the wall. The glasses are accompanied by some of the best salumi and small plates you’ll have in your time here, while the lo-fi and ambient music selection and cosy lighting will have you forgetting just how many hours you’ve been spending in good company. Did you know in 1998 the designers from the Memphis Milano group made an art car? The collective @cletomunari , Ettore Sottsass, Alessandro Mending, Mimmo Paladino and Cesar Pelli all contributed to this striking design, which is today privately owned.
