I N T R O
Hi, I am Yuliya and I am a contemporary painter (more than anything else).
I was born in USSR, Kazakhstan, in 1980.
My parents were both engineers designing industrial and civil facilities for my home town. I had a happy childhood filled with lots of extra curricula. I was rubbish at sport, had a lisp, and was for a year in drama before joining the art school. I was kept busy due to my somewhat high energy.
I went to a law school, faculty courts and prosecution. Was the last intake to have my 1st degree free of charge from the government that then gone full on capitalism.
Had MBA from
#kimep in Almaty whilst working in the small bank in marketing dep.
In 2003 I moved back to home town (aktau). Got married. In 2005, I went to Aberdeen. Got divorced. And got married :).
Worked in oil and gas and engineering firms, helping international designers to deliver for Russia and Kazakhstan based projects.
Was headhunted to London based Canadian Co in 2007, and in 2008/9 was a recession. Lots of contractors in energy lost their jobs, so was I. Didn't want to play politics. Went to get Masters in law at
#queenmary uni. Commendation in arbitration. I realised it was worthless. Spent another year full timing
#gdl - requalification for lawyers at
#bpp Waterloo.
Started working for private clients with a small but powerful family office in
#belgravia in 2011. Divorced 2013.
Was utterly bored by 2015, failing to drag myself out of bed to go to work. Luckily, I was found my beautiful man in 2014, so being with him and a kick from my sister dariageiler helped to quit and try as a full-time artist.
