Getting funding from the gov comes with its term and conditions. Why would art institutions want to be restricted when it’s dealing with the creativity of the people?

Forget the money think of the benefits to the country that well funded museums can help build a creative population. Creative thinking benefits everyone not just in the arts, in science, economics, engineering, philosophy, so much more. Sadly the government don't want us to think creatively they want us to be obedient. Elitism is still rife, representation is important, so much work needs to be done on this & funding is needed to do it. Ticket sales just broaden the gap between those who can afford to see things. £15 to see an exhibition is absurd. Museum entry should always be free. So many examples of better practices in other countries to learn from for both the museums & the government. The benefits far outweigh the cost.

Wild about the people in the comments here saying Museums don't deserve government funding. Museums preserve art, culture and history. They are the foundation for contemporary art and culture. While, I get that they should make money on sales, these institutions need financial support to continue to function. They are the pillars of art. It's delusional to think that laissez-faire capitalism would reinforce their stability. And it's gross to hear people not recognizing their importance here.
