AMPLIFY: A CALL FOR TRANSFORMATIVE ACTION, a new research report commissioned by Irish Theatre Institute as part of the #SafeToCreate Programme, launched today at the Project Arts Centre #Dublin AMPLIFY presents the findings of a comprehensive research programme, designed to shed light on the lived experiences of disabled, LGBTQIA+, and ethnically diverse artists and arts workers in Ireland. To capture information on the lived experience of intellectually disabled (ID) artists, a strand of the research focused specifically on surveying ID artists, family members of ID artists, ID arts organisations, and arts workers who facilitate arts projects with ID artists. Read the Report: Link in bio & safetocreate.ie > research Safe to Create is in partnership with the @artscouncilireland , @screenireland and @mindingcreativeminds , on behalf of the Department of @tourism.culture.gaeltacht #AD Text over a green and orange background for all frames. Frame 1: 'AMPLIFY asked for the perspectives of LGBTQIA+, racially and ethnically minoritised, and disabled artists and arts workers, and examined the experiences of intellectually disabled artists, their family members, and facilitators and organisations working with them' Frame 2: Amplify shows the stark reality that discrimination on the grounds of identity is widespread. Artists and arts workers are losing out on opportunities and are being subjected to ableism, transphobia, homophobia, and racism. Frame 3: “People have an idea of a play and there’s something to do with migration, or refugees, or black people and they ask for your opinion. I’m like, I don’t know about this, why are you asking me? People just assume these things…so it just boxes you in”. Frame 4: 73% of racially and ethnically minoritised respondents say they are frequently the only minoritised artist or arts worker in their workplaces. Almost three quarters of racially and ethnically minoritised respondents say they feel that they’re seen as a de-facto representative for their wider community. Cont. in first comment.....

Through Minister Catherine Martin and this governments’ introduction of the Basic Income for the Arts pilot, Ireland has taken a significant step towards better supporting and investing in its artists. This initiative provides a basic income to artists, recognising their contribution to society and the economy. However, this program is currently a pilot. Let us stand together in support of our artists and arts workers by urging policymakers in Ireland to retain, extend and expand Basic Income for the Arts. If you agree, HIT THE LINK IN BIO & SIGN THE PETITION: #AD Image of a club night scene with text overlaid. The text reads, 'Sign the Petition!' 'Retain, Extend & Expand Basic Income for the Arts'.

In early May, we ran the last of the current series of Active Bystander Training, with Professor Louise Crowley and Olwen Dawe, in Kells Courthouse Tourism and Culture Hub, Meath. Thanks to everyone who came along and participated. What a venue to finish on! A stunning building and a really great team who looked after us very well. And, take a look at the view from our window! We will announce new training dates later in the year, so do keep a look out on our Training pages: Link in bio > Training #AccessibilityDescription Frame 1: Four people stand in a line against a dark curtain. In November 2023, the ‘Governance and Dignity at Work in Ireland’s Arts and Creative Sectors’ survey asked Chairs, Board Members, Trustees, and Executive/Senior Management to reflect on their level of knowledge and experience of Dignity at Work policy and process from a Governance perspective. Respondents were asked to share their own experiences and reflections on practices in the organisations they work. The analysis of these responses - Influencing Change: Pathways to Dignity at Work Through Good Governance - launches today and is available to download from the Safe to Create website. The research has evidenced the positive appetite in the sector for good governance but it has also identified areas of concern. This piece of research will assist Safe to Create in the development of further toolkits, guidelines, training and other materials designed to promote Dignity at Work across the arts and creative sectors. Read the Report: Link in Bio > 'Research - Safe to Create' SAFE TO CREATE is a Dignity at Work programme. It is managed by @Irish_Theatre_Institute , in partnership with the @artscouncilireland , @ScreenIreland and @MindingCreativeMinds , on behalf of the @tourism.culture.gaeltacht #SafeToCreate #DignityAtWork #InfluencingChange
