Not sure if this is truly an unpopular opinion or if I just think it will be, but hear me out on this...
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Just because you’re a photographer doesn’t mean you have to hold a camera in your brand photos 😉
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If someone is hiring you as a photographer, they don’t need to see a photo of you holding a camera to know what you do. What they really want to see is your personality come through in the image! They want you to make them FEEL something so they get a little bit of an idea of what it’s like to be around you and how you’ll make THEM feel!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So put that camera down and get a little more creative with how you show off your personality and brand through your headshots and brand photos!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Think about the colors you’re using and what they say; consider your outfit and how formal or casual you want to go; bring in other things that show off parts of you to create connection (like how I used my dog, Spruce here!); play around with different facial expressions and unexpected crops or angles; and if you must have a camera, try something unique like a vintage model you use for your personal photos, or a colorful instant camera for fun!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Want to stand out in your next headshots? Grab a spot in my colorful headshot mini sessions this month (June 19th at @thesunlightspace ) and I’ll walk you through it! Together we can overcome any fears you have and truly make your headshots feel like YOU! Head to the link in my profile for all the info!

What do you think about my hot take? 😜

I have celiac disease. It took more than 10 years to get diagnosed (back in 2009) after seeing many specialists and acquiring lots of random diagnoses including narcolepsy (don’t worry, those symptoms went away after I stopped eating gluten). But no one had been putting it all together until I demanded to be tested; turns out celiac disease explained almost all my issues!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Why am I talking about all this? May is celiac disease awareness month! A few years ago I wrote a blog post all about celiac disease and my own personal story, and this year I’ve gathered all my favorite gluten-free foods and snacks (and a few other goodies!) and am sharing them with you in another post.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Over 15 years of being strictly gluten-free, I’ve tried so many foods and products! Now I have a bunch of my on faves that I come back to time and time again, so I wanted to share them in case you or someone you know can benefit!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You can find both posts (favorite foods as well as my story) by going to the link in my profile and clicking on “latest on the blog,” or clicking the links in my stories today. Feel free to share and spread the word about celiac disease!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m also an open book and happy to help if you have any questions or if you are struggling yourself; just send me a message or email. I’ve done a lot of research on celiac disease through my master’s degree and background in medicine and nursing!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Do any of you also have celiac disease? Have you tried any of my faves in the blog post?
