In the « Saharaja » series Abi Shehu delves into the theme of collective amnesia, drawing inspiration from the forgotten history of the Spaç political prison in Albania. Through a video installation comprising stacked vintage television sets, each flickering with repetitive animations based on graffiti found within the prison’s ruins, Shehu sheds light on the enduring legacy of oppression and resistance. The animation is based on photographic images of graffiti (drawings, inscriptions, and signs) found on the walls of the ruins of the notorious former prison and labor camp Spaç (1968–1990). In poor physical condition due to insufficient conservation, the graffiti of the Spaç camp is presented as an almost archaeological object documented by photographs. Mbi Lum’ / Above the River Abi Shehu & Sara Rodiqi Mbi Lum’ është një instalacion publik i artistes Abi Shehu dhe arkitektes Sara Rodiqi që shqyrton veprimet që ndikuan në shndërrimin e këtyre lumenjve në ujëra të zeza për kryeqytetin. Vepra bazohet në gjurmimin e shtratit të lumit Vellusha përmes audio-instalacioneve dhe skulpturave metalike. Instalimi është një ndërhyrje konceptuale që sjell nëntokën mbi sipërfaqe dhe bën që qytetarët të kenë një vetëdije të re për qytetin përmes dëgjimit. Skulpturat e instaluara në pjesë të ndryshme të qytetit do të qëndrojnë deri me 25.11.2023 Për të shikuar hartën e vendosjes së skulpturave referohuni në vegzën në bio. ________________ “Above the River” is a public installation by artist Abi Shehu and architect Sara Rodiqi investigating the impact of actions that turned these rivers into sewage systems for the capital. The work traced down the bed of the Vellusha River through a sound installation and immersive metal sculptures. The installation is a conceptual intervention that brings the underground above the surface and makes the bypassers gain a new awareness about the city through listening.
