I’m really happy to share my latest downtempo/ambient mix, this time released on Apple Music’s “Early Hours” series! The prompt of the series is a mix for either winding down after a night out, or getting started with your day. All of the tracks in this mix I hold really dear to me and are selected from a playlist of mine called “High Speed Calm Air” (based on the track title from ML Buch). I’ve been building, morphing, editing this playlist the last years while on the road gigging. I wanted a selection of tracks that I know will always work for me and that I can always put on after leaving a club/set/party or when I’m starting my day or travels, something I can always rely on to put me in a right state of mind. So it really was a perfect and personal fit to draw from this for the Early Hours mix concept. I chose the name “High Speed Calm Air” for this playlist as fitting for these candid moments after intense impressions and nights (high speed) where everything happens so fast, where afterwards I want to listen to music that is re-centering and grounding (calm air) and let’s me smoothly process, integrate, and cherish all these experiences and emotions. I am incredibly thrilled to announce I am now a resident of .TAG, Chengdu! After playing three sets at .TAG over the course of two weekends and dancing there over the Chinese New Year, I quickly fell deep in love with this place. It is one of the few clubs in the world where I have felt such a seamless flow going through a whole journey of a night being fully immersed and swept away by music, both as a DJ and a dancer, without feeling any kind of disruption. In the end, leaving the elevator coming from the 21st floor loft where the club is situated feels like emerging from some kind of dream. Only fitting for a club which its initials stand for “To Another Galaxy!”. The .TAG community and DJs really blew me away with their resilient energy, kindness, and genuine passion for music, dancing, and art which extends beyond any single genre or night to a whole tight-knit community of musicians, artists and ravers. I am so happy such a place like this exists in the world and I couldn’t be happier to join the .TAG family! Ellen, the founder of .TAG and co-founder of @qiao.asia agency and who set up this tour for me, will now also be representing my bookings for the Asia region. I just want to thank all of the clubs and dancers on this tour, I thoroughly enjoyed every single gig, the very nice sound systems/light tech and many long sets, closings, and all-nighter at Pawnshop Taipei. Coming up for NYE/NYD, I’m really happy to be finishing this year and starting the next back home with these gigs in North America. I’m really excited by what I have been perceiving in NA over the past few years, tight-knit and open minded communities developing farther, more unique DIY productions, licensed venues and intimate festivals/campouts with really proper sound, light tech, and vibe, and a lot of new talented producers and DJs. Happy release day! Next up on my label summerpup is the debut release and full-length album from Berlin-based artist xupid. Tripped out diverse techno-bass hybrids, cuts and grooves. Swipe for snippets. xupid and I first met in Berlin in 2013 and have been exchanging tracks ever since, many of which have been my secret dj weapons over the years. I'm really happy toshare these with you now, as xupid's first full release. The album is released on 2x12" Vinyl with a beautiful printed sleeve. The silver pieces depicting 'xupid' on the cover and inner labels are individual pieces of silver jewelry metalwork, each designed, handcrafted and photographed by NYC-based artist Sam Shin.
