The Directors Guild Foundation (DGF) is paying tribute to esteemed member and DGF officer Carl Weathers by renaming their premier annual fundraising event in his honor. Going forward, the Tournament will be officially known as the Directors Guild Foundation Carl Weathers Memorial Golf Tournament. Director and DGF Chairman Todd Holland shared this statement regarding the dedication: “Carl Weathers was the embodiment of dedication to the Directors Guild and the Foundation. For over two decades, he devoted himself to serving the DGA, including as an officer of the Foundation since 2012. Relishing the opportunity to give back, connect with peers, and enjoy quality time with friends and colleagues on the green, Carl Weathers eagerly anticipated the Directors Guild Foundation's annual golf tournament as both a participant and MC of the Tournament reception." The Directors Guild Foundation Carl Weathers Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for Monday, June 24, 2024, at the Wilshire Country Club. This tournament benefits the Directors Guild Foundation, with all proceeds directly supporting the institution's longstanding tradition of assisting Guild members and the industry for over seven decades. ** The Carl Weathers Memorial Annual Golf Tournament is an exclusive event for DGA members and Tournament sponsors, limited in attendance and closed to members of the media and the general public.

On this 80th anniversary of D-Day, the DGA remembers two-time Guild President and Director George Stevens. Best known for classics like Gunga Din before the war, Stevens answered the call from Gen. Eisenhower to document the Battle of Europe with his camera. As the Allied Expeditionary Forces' producer, he captured the only existing color footage of the D-Day invasion, as well as the liberation of Paris, the historic US-Soviet link up, the German surrender in France, and the harrowing scenes from Dachau concentration camp later shown at Nuremberg. After witnessing such profound events, Stevens reflected "films were much less important to me and, in a way, perhaps more important." His son, George Stevens Jr. noted, "The fact that all these men had a war in mid-career made them more interesting directors. War is a deep and rich experience, and what makes a director great other than their life experiences?" Stevens' D-Day footage ensures the sacrifices and achievements of that defining day will never be forgotten. Visit the link in our bio for more info.
