This set I performed for @hoer.berlin consists exclusively of unreleased tracks from the extensive @skylaxrecords catalog. While some of these tracks have already been released, the majority are still in production at the factory (yes, we still press vinyls!). Honestly, it wouldn’t have felt right to play oldies when we have a catalog of over 1000 tracks to dig through! Instead of saying the clichéd « things were better before, » we believe there’s an ocean of outstanding artists who deserve to have their music showcased. With hard work and dedication, I believe some of these tracks will stand the test of time and may even become classics (we’ve already produced some!). It’s needless to say how much we love our artists—they are the lifeblood and soul of @skylaxrecords , just as much as I am. It’s only fair to play their fabulous music. I doubt many trendy DJs with that signature parisian sound could have lasted five minutes with this type of crowd, who craved a more vibey, solar sound rather than something pounding. It will be a re-edit release (a tribute to the supremacy of Disco Music from the golden years, but with a modern twist) on Vinyl (LIMITED COPIES) and digital (Bandcamp only). Two decades ago a young DJ named Ricardo Villalobos @realricardistas has featured our track « That Track by Kat » in his iconic compilation « Taka Taka » for the renowned German label Cocoon. Today this track has evolved into an absolute classic, spinning on turntables of DJs across the globe. Here’s a fun fact: When we first licenced & released this track in 2002 on shadowprint records, we had over 1000 records in stock and faced difficulty selling them. Then Ricardo played it and included it in his compilation. Just a few days later, we were completely sold out!
