It looks like Keir Starmer’s Labour party will win in a historic landslide in the UK’s general election tomorrow. Though for many, finally getting the Tories out will feel bittersweet.
After fourteen years of Conservative rule, the social and political landscape of the UK is pretty bleak. This time around, however, the alternative is not much better. Under the leadership of Keir Starmer, it seems as though a Labour government will usher in austerity under a new guise, racist rhetoric around foreign policy and immigration will remain in place, transphobic culture war talking points will linger on front page news and the NHS is set to be sold off to the highest bidder. We’ve already seen that green investment has been scrapped with no promise of it ever returning.
But who to vote for in what is typically a two-horse race? We’re not going to tell you what to do, but given the current polling it’s safe to say that the Tories are not close to gaining a majority. This means that, for the first time in most of our lifetimes, voting with your conscience is not a terrible idea.
Whether that’s an independent candidate or a greener, more left wing party, voting with your heart in this election would send a clear message to Labour: that young people do not want Red Tories in office, they want a better, fairer world.

@shayneoliver.group takes us through the vibe for Anonymous Club’s SS25 show and his love for his new-found home in Neukölln. Playing with the idea of a uniform (something the designer has done since his HBA days) the SS25 collection presented a top-heavy silhouette – each look creating this in varied, distinct ways, – either through the volume or cut of a garment. Rounding off the first day of Berlin Fashion Week, all the city’s most in-the-know were in attendance, coming together to worship at the shrine of Shayne. 🙏

We caught up with the boys backstage at @gmbh_official ahead of their SS25 show ‘Resistance Through Rituals’. Slicked back hair and bitchy boots were abound, while boxing references that manifested in slinky shorts and oversized, billowing jackets, peppered the show. A coat of arms accompanied by the phrase “GmbH: Love and Justice” epitomised the mood of the collection, which was a paean to community and defiance of a societal shift to the right.

Every summer since 1983, mermaid-obsessives from New York and around the world have flocked to the Coney Island boardwalk for a 200,000+ person-strong parade. This year, grown ups and kids dressed as merfolk, sharks and sailors – among other aquatic sealife – all came together to stage a Mardi Gras-level display.
Over the years, the shapeshifting nature of merfolk has been embraced as a symbol for LGBT+ folk and particularly the trans community. As one person in the parade told photographer @juliandufour : “There’s beauty in the absolute queerness that gets expressed today”.

This year’s SS24 campaign, titled “DO or DIE”, features members of the rockabilly group @strangersharajuku_official who have been dancing the twist in Harajuku since the 1980s.
Their dedication to leather, denim and the rockabilly spirit is what has fuelled LỰU ĐẠN this season. i-D tagged along to capture this celebration of the iconic Harajuku subculture.

@petercopping is announced the new Artistic Director of @lanvin !
From September, Peter Copping will be heading up the iconic heritage House, designing menswear and womenswear, as well as leather goods and accessories. The Central Saint Martins and Royal College of Art alumni cut his teeth at Sonia Rykiel and worked closely with Marc Jacobs at Louis Vuitton developing the brand’s womenswear line, before moving to Nina Ricci as Creative Director. After his Creative Directorship at Oscar de la Renta he was instrumental in reintroducing couture and overseeing its production at Balenciaga.
The pioneering approach to couture seen at Balenciaga since 2021, uniting heritage craftsmanship and new technological approaches to construction, has reinvigorated the couture calendar. We’re excited for his next chapter at Lanvin! Are you?
