I have just received a couple of photos from Reinhard in Germany, sharing the happy new home of my piece ‘Monolith’, hung amongst some extraordinary company! We stayed in touch so I could learn more about his unique collection of books. A future note to self, I must start asking for such photos or at least document moments of work in the hands of their special new owners. Something I never think about. Absurd as it might sound, letting your illustrated plates go feels like coordinating an adoption agency. You develop an invested interest and profound appreciation that the work will find a joyful home. Can’t ask for much more 🙏 it’s honestly all about the engagement ✨ Reinhard Grüner has a private collection of 1000 modern artists’ books with the main focus on East German and Russian artists, from the 1960s to the present. He curates exhibitions of his books and is always interested in getting into contact with other collectors, artists and museums. Excerpts from my book - ‘Out of The Box’ - A Celebration of Contemporary Box Art.
Final Chapter of AIR YRJÖ EDELMANN Yrjö Edelmann was a celebrated Swedish painter. With a background in comic strips and illustration, he is best known for his hyperrealist depictions of clumsily wrapped packages and boxes. “One day in 1976,” he explained, “I looked out of the window in my studio and saw just this one single cloud. If I’d just painted that, it would’ve just been an ordinary landscape painting, and I didn’t want that. But then I suddenly noticed a piece of crinkled paper on my table, and so I cut it to the shape of a cloud, and painted that against a realistic landscape.” So began his experiments with trompe l’oeil, masterfully blending thin layers of oil paint using a traditional Renaissance glazing technique. By only depicting wrapped parcels, Yrjö maintained a convincing sense of tension and mystery in his work, making you wonder what might actually be underneath all that wrapping paper. You cannot help but be fascinated by the shady depths of these crumpled shapes, not to mention the dedication required to make them. Whether they are works of reality or fantasy, the viewer becomes swept up in a dreamy seascape of almost in nite proportions. This selection of Yrjö’s paintings has been reproduced with the kind permission of Galleri GKM, which exclusively represents the artist’s estate. -Cascata de São João- Miniature houses, St John’s basils, balloons and hammers, fish, boats, a stove with sardines on the grill, all made from clay. These are some of the hundreds of ceramic pieces of different sizes that give life to the São João Community Cascata — an arrangement of figurines traditional to the feast which are all on display at Bolhão Market in Porto until 30th June. The project invites people to reproduce part of the city’s architectural identity. In the ceramics workshops, everyone is free to choose the shape, design, size or colours of the house they make in clay. Ceramicist Teresa Branco, from Oficina Brâmica, has been responsible for this project since 2016. “Porto, despite being a dark city due to the granite, is full of colour due to the tiles. All these elements that make up the Community Waterfall (Cascade) especially the miniature houses, full of individual colour and life. At the moment we have around 3,000 houses to build the waterfall” São João festival originated as a pagan festivity back in the 14th century, a celebration and thanks to the sun god for a good harvest and abundance. It was later christianised as a celebration to São João by the Church, but many of the pagan customs persist even to this day, like the usage of wild leek, basil and the bonfires. In its many incarnations, this festival has been celebrated in Porto for about 700 years and lives on as a key part of the city’s identity. #Community #Cascata #Waterfall #miniatures #project #Porto #Portugal #interference #SãoJoão #festival #ceramicstudio

Societé Anonyme - André Citroën 1965 My Mum’s recent birthday got me thinking about Citroëns. I grew up bouncing around in these Tin snails. I believe we had one 2CV, then a couple of Dyane in succession, ending with the classic bread van style ‘Acadiane’ in bright yellow. Mama was so proud if we ever saw another one on the road she’d have to stop and say hello, this excitement always seemed mutual as they probably wanted to talk mechanics 🙃💦 Also reminds me of the James Bond country car chase with Roger Moore in -For Your Eyes Only-

Excerpts from my book - ‘Out of The Box’ - A Celebration of Contemporary Box Art.
Final Chapter of AIR MICAH LEXIER SOMETHING I MADE WITH SOME THINGS THAT I FOUND Micah Lexier is a Toronto-based artist whose activities include making, collecting, and organizing. He is fascinated by measurement, increment, found imagery, and display structures. Micah’s projects range in scale from limited edition multiples to massive public sculptures. He has held more than a hundred solo exhibitions, participated in over two hundred group shows, and has produced a dozen permanent public commissions. His artwork takes many forms, from illuminated light boxes to vitrine installations. In 2020, Micah created a1000 piece jigsaw puzzle composed entirely of images of found objects sourced from his archive of teaching tools, games, puzzles, tests, building blocks, stencils, stationery, magic tricks, and a number of utilitarian objects. In creating the puzzle, he selected items featuring numbers, letters, and simple geometric shapes, with a focus on those with multiple or repeated elements. In doing so, he was able to embed a series of small puzzles within the larger puzzle. Made in collaboration with Four Point Puzzles, ‘Several Found Things’ seemed like a natural progression to Micah: an actual, commercially produced puzzle, rather than a work about a puzzle. LOST AND FOUND (in transition, in translation) @atomgallery TOM BUCHANAN v KEELERTORNERO An experimental collaborative exhibition curated by Emma Tornero & Chin Keeler

Slide 1:The Interfered with.. 2:The concept 3:The Response 4:The interpretation 5:The Original

TOM BUCHANAN “ Don’t think too hard, just close your eyes, take a deep breath and dive in. That was my resolve on initially feeling a little pensive, yet before I knew it I was immersed in entertaining thoughts about -The Swimmer- a 1968 surrealist film starring Burt Lancaster paddling his way home through backyard pools, some neighbours welcome him, others hate him. Somewhere in the creative process I also got rather excited about 18th century bathing machines. I must do this more often… “
