▪️ Within the St James Piccadilly garden design at the Chelsea flower show there was a sculptural building inspired by the architecture of St James's Church that offered a beautiful space for connection and togetherness with natural light and an intimacy that connected the natural world. ▪️ The sculptured building was to reference the counselling hut situated in the St James's Church Piccadilly garden which since 1982, has every year offered a safe and private space for around 5,000 hours of free drop - in councelling. ▪️ The sequence of photos here show the sheer craftsmanship behind the building itself being designed by @morison_studio and built by @castleringoak & @jkdtimberworks . ▪️ At the bottom sat a tapering cylinder with a concavely curving spire on top that elegantly mirrored the tree trunks surrounding it. Constructed of Oak, douglas fir and chestnut for the lath. ▪️ Inside there was a circular window giving a framed view onto the garden with peaceful areas for sitting. The diffused light from the garden came in via the elevated lower rim of the spire along with the framing above and connecting the visitor to time within nature. A truly incredible structure that deserved its own post here. The St James's Piccadilly garden ''Imagine the world to be different'' at Chelsea Flower Show 2024 ▪️ This captivating garden was designed by Robert Myers as a place for people to go to that would be peaceful and to escape to an oasis from an otherwise crazy and hectic world. ▪️ The garden supported efforts to raise £20m for The Wren Project, a scheme to restore and rejuvenate the historic Wren-designed church grounds and to enable them to continue their extensive social outreach and environmental work. ▪️ The church is known for its hospitality and engagement with the surrounding community, for its support to refugees, people experiencing homelessness and its advocacy of social justice. ▪️ The churches Southwood garden (formely the green Churchyard) has been a sacred space right the way back from its beginning, damaged during the second world war it was dedicated in memory of those who had lost their lives. It symbolises a message of hope and recovery whilst bringing together future generations to 'imagine the world to be different'. ▪️ Follow us over the next couple of weeks as we run a feature on Robert and his award wining garden from the Chelsea Flower show this year - St James's Piccadilly Garden. Rector Lucy Winkett talks about restoring this historic, Wren-designed church and grounds following the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. “We are going to restore this garden; we want to make it accessible step-free everywhere. We are going to develop the biodiverse planting in the garden, and the flower show garden is really a slice of the new garden. As part of that, the counselling hut has been redesigned, and it will ensure that we are able to do what we do now but with much greater impact.” Lucky Winkett, Rector of St James’s Church, Piccadilly. #rhschelsea #rhschelseaflowershow

Robert talks about this iconic Wren church and the transparent windows designed to admit abundant natural light that we replicated for the RHS Chelsea garden. “The windows, in a sense, were one of the iconic elements of the building, so what we have done is to incorporate one of the windows into the rear wall of our show garden, and the way that the garden is set up at the showground means the public will actually be able to look through the rear window as well as from the garden side, so the public will be able to both see in and see out.” Robert Myers MA (Cantab), PGDipLA, CMLI, MSGD #rhschelsea #rhschelseaflowershow

English actor, broadcaster, comedian, director, narrator, and writer Stephen Fry discusses relocating our RHS Chelsea garden to St James’s Piccadilly. “Standing here in the middle of St James’s, this is the heart of London’s west end surrounded by the most magnificent stores and shops, but you may say that the one thing it lacks, of course, is a green space. This garden which is charming enough now, but after its taken its place at the Chelsea Flower Show, the first church to ever be granted such an honour, I think we will see an even more remarkable space.” Stephen Fry #gardensforgoodcauses #rhschelsea #rhschelseaflowershow

This week, we have been relocating our RHS Chelsea garden, setting out and planting at St James’s partner church, St Pancras Euston Road. Here, we revisit the build-up to the show and discuss our garden inspiration. “We have been really inspired by the amazing Wren church, the qualities of it as a building, as a piece of architecture; what’s really lovely about the site at Chelsea is that it will have these amazing plain trees as a backdrop, similar height and character, so it will give the garden the same quality of dappled shade, sitting under trees that we have here, transporting people who come to the show to St James’s so they have the same feeling of character and sense of place” Robert Myers MA (Cantab), PGDipLA, CMLI, MSGD #gardensforgoodcauses #rhschelsea #rhschelseaflowershow

As the designer of a Chelsea garden you get to be the face of the project. But, the reality is that it takes a village of people to make a garden come to life and I’ll be forever grateful to my contractor Mark (@stewartlandscape ) for helping me build the most wonderful team I could imagine. Prior to the build of the Bridgerton Garden, the team @niwaki.hq had very kindly sent me over some new tools, including one of their iconic golden spades. All throughout the build and planting weeks this spade was in hot demand — no hole would be dug or mulch scooped without this one golden spade, even if there were a half dozen other spades lying around. It became a bit of a joke on site with everyone whispering that they were going to steal it. Little did they know that we had a surprise of our own up our sleeve… As the planting was finished and the final touches put on the garden, I had the great joy of gifting each of my team members their own engraved golden spade. The happiness these moments brought will forever be treasured. To @c_j_landscapes you’ve been my partner in crime. To my planting and volunteer team @carolinejeansgardendesign @farmhouse.gardener @rachel_wyld @themountkent @deborahwalter2222 @colleenh04 I’ll forever be grateful for the way you worked with me to the last minute to ensure my vision was brought to life. To the @naturalbydesign_drystonewalls team, it was an honour to see your craftsmanship and creativity come to life. The moongate was my pride and joy and you captured it so beautifully. To @rjjsculptor never have I met someone so wildly creative and capable. Your enthusiasm for the project and willingness to jump in despite the late notice was appreciated beyond words. To @waterartisans your team is exemplary in every way. Whenever I called, you were there. I can’t wait to dream up big things together in the future. To my press and comms team @seewhygarden @vikki_rimmer_press_contact , thank you for guiding, supporting, uplifting, defending and championing me the entire way through. You are the dream team. Finally to my husband @umesh_london and @niwaki.hq thank you for dreaming up these perfect gifts. Here’s to the golden spade! ✨

They say gardens make memories, and they certainly do when you’re at Chelsea. Thanks so much to garden designer Holly Johnston, creator of The Bridgerton Garden, for asking me to work with her on the garden’s marketing and communications. Like so many people I was just one of a massive list of enthusiasts (landscapers, stone masons, planters, water experts, lighting designers etc) wanting Holly to do well. First time at Chelsea is never easy. Since the beginning of the year we’ve been discussing the message of the garden; the story behind it; what we want people to get from it; how the judges will perceive it; and what the public will think. As with all the designers and sponsors, there are hours and hours of work that go into making these amazing creations. Working with my partner in crime Vikki Rimmer - who does the best job ever of talking to the press, photographers and content creators - we’ve had loads and loads of press and public support for Holly and her garden. Plus a very royal visitor. Netflix has been brilliant to work with too. And the garden’s ultimate relocation to Cambridge University Hospitals will be most fitting. So it’s that time to look through the camera roll, remember all the details and people, and cheers to Chelsea 24. All those great memories; here’s to you stepping into the light Holly….. @the_rhs @hollyjohnstondesign @stewartlandscape @vikki_rimmer_press_contact @c_j_landscapes @rjjsculptor @waterartisans @nickichappers @angellicabell @lucyyoungthecook @netflixuk @bridgertonnetflix

THE PATH A special thanks to @brickworksvandemoortel and @iamhebron for donating the pavers which are called Aureum. They’ve been laid with a concave profile to create a more fun and playful walking or rolling experience. A sprinkle of glitter has been mixed into the sand for extra sparkle ✨ The path gently winds through the garden and connects both ends to symbolise Panathlon’s value of promoting accessibility and inclusion. #rhschelsea #rhschelseaflowershow #rhscfs #joygarden #joy #joyful #projectgivingback #colourfulgarden #colourfulgardens Good cause: @panathlonchallenge Sponsor: @project.giving.back Contractor: @stewartlandscape
