The 𝗔𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸 is a portable flight kit enclosing an aerosolar sculpture that floats only with the heat of the sun, without the use of helium, hydrogen, solar panels, batteries or burners, free from fossil fuels. Fully open-source its users are invited to appropriate and improve its functionalities of mechanical, digital and electronic technologies, strengthening a DIT (Do-It-Together) ethos fostered by the Aerocene Community.
Providing a message of simplicity, community members are also invited to write messages towards change and hope on the sculpture, making it a poetic tool for imagining a new era without fossil fuels and new ways of decarbonizing the atmosphere.
Want to float with Aerocene in Seoul? @leeummuseumofart will launch the 𝗔𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 in collaboration with regional art institutions, part of the public program Aerocene Seoul this September.

“Mining companies accused of colonial ‘divide and rule’ tactics in their pursuit of the precious metal that lies under the country’s salt flats”
Thank you Harriet Barber for the invaluable work in shedding light on the critical situation in northern Argentina, where multinational lithium mining companies continue to put immense pressure on the communities, landscapes, water supplies and wider ecosystems.
For a just and Eco-social energy transition, we stand in solidarity with the Indigenous Communities of Salinas Grandes and Laguna de Guayatayoc who continue to resist lithium extraction and fight for the protection of their ancestral lands. In the face of the Global North’s neocolonial energy models, which in the name of a “green” transition continue to create "sacrifice zones", destabilize entire regions and breach multiple human rights, we would like to once again raise the message from the Indigenous Communities in Jujuy:
Water and Life are worth more than lithium.
We no longer want to be a sacrifice zone.

‘Play-Ground: Spider/web vibration, divination… for the terrestrial and cosmic web(s) of life’ translates onto the ground the inaudible yet sensible frequencies of Evarcha arcuata, Steatoda bipunctata, Araneus diadematus, Pardosa lugubris, and Holocnemus pluchei.
‘Radical Playgrounds’ is open until July 14 in the grounds of Gropius Hain @berlinerfestspiele and features this walk-in installation, where cobblestones shake according to frequencies of the spiders’ and cosmic web. Surrounding the sensorial environment are last autumn’s leaves, fallen from the trees and kept on-site, sharing their microbiota into fertile play-grounds for spiders.
Knowledge reverberates through the entangled terrestrial and cosmic web(s) of life, in a silent but sensible concert of vibrations. From the play-ground of Gropius Hain, to the vibrations of Heteroscodra crassipes (ŋgam) and the diviners in Somié, Cameroon, where the practice of ‘ŋgam dù’ spider divination helps humans seek knowledge about their lives.
During a consultation, a species of ground-dwelling spider is asked binary questions, passed from human to nonhuman comprehension, into the language of vibration. Spiders may be open for questions through the post box on-site or the web/site nggamdu.org. Write down and deposit yours, and a series will be raffled at the end of the exhibition.
Thank you to Joanna Warsza, Benjamin Foerster-Baldenius and the Radical Playgrounds team for their help to bring the project to life. To Roland Mühlethaler, a long-term friend and member of the Arachnophilia community who has collaborated with us on developing this work. To Patrick, Matthew, Ollie, and Sarah for their contributions to this project, and to the rest of my studio 🕷️🕸️

This Sunday in Berlin, we invite you to join us for the event ‘Who qualifies as a subject of rights? We no longer want to be a sacrifice zone!’ a panel discussion and Q+A @spore.initiative !!
A film screening of ‘Fly with Pacha, into the Aerocene’ followed by an introduction of a collective, intergenerational artwork and discussion with Tomás, sociologist @maristellasvampa , and political economist Nina Schlosser, moderated by author and curator Yasmil Raymond.
A message, a film, a journey around the sun with Pachamama, a space-time towards eras of complementarities, 'Fly with Pacha, into the Aerocene' portrays the long-standing relationship between many ever-growing communities across multiple continents, documenting the ongoing collaboration between @aerocene and the Indigenous Communities of Salinas Grandes and Laguna de Guayatayoc, in Jujuy, Northern Argentina.
Initiated in 2017, with additional archival fragments dating from 2006 onwards, this project is an ongoing dialogue with Kollas Indigenous Peoples, protecting their ancestral lands from lithium extraction, for eco-social justice in the name of the peoples of the Global South.
