As a Team Smandych member, you are entitled to all classes and have full use of the gym during regular gym hours.

WHO IS ‘NASTY’ NATE SMANDYCH?
@nasty_nates started out in karate at the age of 12. When he was 15, he followed in the footsteps of his big brother, Trevor, and made the switch to the Muay Thai and Kickboxing program. Known for his clean technique and slick fight style in the ring, Nate amassed 49 fights under the guidance of coach Mike Miles and Trevor, with a fight record of 32W-17L with 4 KOs.
Some of his most notable opponents included Gabriel Varga (Canada), Matt Embree (Canada), Dave Fensom (England), Mark DeLuca (USA), and Paul Karpowicz (England). Nate’s list of championship titles include:
2004 - WKA North American Superlightweight MuayThai Champion
2005 - IKF North American Lightwelterweight MuayThai Champion
2006 - IFMA Amateur World MuayThai Championships - Silver Medal
2006 - IKF World Classic Lightwelterweight MuayThai Champion
2007 - IAMTF North American Jr.Welterweight Champion
Nate taught many classes at both locations of Mike Miles Kickboxing and Muay Thai, and in 2010, Nate and Trevor became business partners when they branched out and started Team Smandych together. While Nate is now retired from fighting, he continues to pass on his technical knowledge and expertise to the students of Team Smandych. Nate is known for his fun and vibrant energy… and his love of burpees.
Outside of the gym you will find Nate spending time with his wife Sarah and their two daughters, or cheering on the Calgary Flames!

WHO IS TREVOR ‘TNT’ SMANDYCH?
Trevor began his martial arts journey in karate at the age of 11. When he was 13, he moved into the muay thai/kickboxing program and never looked back. Known for his forward pressure and his devastating left body hook and low kicks, Trevor had an incredibly successful fight career under coach Mike Miles, accumulating over 60 fights with a professional record of 26W-5L-2D with 13KOs.
He had notable fights against the likes of Remy Bonnel (France), Narupol Fairtex (Thailand), Kurt Finlayson (Australia), Sak Nayagam (England), Mark Brackenburry (Canada), Shane Campbell (Canada), Murthrel Groenhart (Netherlands), Shaun Yacoubian (USA), and Jeff Perry (USA) and amassed 8 professional championship titles along the way (see comments for full list).
In 2008, Trevor had the opportunity to compete on the Contender Asia - a reality series following the 16 top middleweight fighters in the world including John Wayne Parr, Narupol Fairtex, and Yodsanklai Fairtex.
Trevor ran the Ranchlands location of Mike Miles Kickboxing and Muay Thai from January 1999 to December 2009. In 2010 he and his brother Nate branched out and started Team Smandych. With keen eyes for proper technique, enthusiasm for helping students achieve their goals combined with the love of Muay Thai, they have successfully created a welcoming, yet disciplined, teaching environment for beginners and advanced athletes alike.
Trevor’s resume also includes being the mastermind behind the successful and popular fight promotion Journey Fight Series from 2010 - 2017. Journey hosted many amateur and professional bouts and helped to solidify the Muay Thai scene in Canada.
Trevor is a loving husband to Lisa and father of 3 children. When he is not busy at the gym, you will find him at one of his children’s hockey or baseball games.
