On National Indigenous People’s Day, Three Dollar Bill acknowledges our presence on this land as uninvited guests, and we acknowledge solidarity with the Indigenous peoples of Turtle Island. We recognize that this land is the traditional territory of the Wendat, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Anishinaabe, and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. These nations have stewarded these lands for generations, nurturing its soil, rivers, and forests. On the longest day of the year, we recognize the centuries long and continued struggle that Indigenous people have faced on this stolen land. Furthermore, we acknowledge the profound contributions of queer and two-spirit individuals throughout history, whose resilience, creativity, and advocacy have enriched our communities and helped shape the diverse fabric of Toronto and beyond. Gender is not only a construct but a device of colonial control. At Three Dollar Bill we acknowledge that systemic injustices persist, and we commit to dismantling barriers that continue to marginalize Indigenous, queer, and two-spirit voices. We honour the ongoing struggles for equality, justice, and reconciliation. In the spirit of solidarity and respect, we express gratitude for the opportunity to have a space to gather, celebrate, and affirm our identities. May we continue to work towards building a more inclusive, equitable, and compassionate world for all.
