Hi there! I had a great 10 day break. I had planned to work on some solo recordings and promo material, but I didn't.
Instead, I visited some friends and family, disconnected from social media, and was just plain lazy many times in between.
Something told me not to work, and I'm glad I didn't. My brain was fried and needed a rest. Now, I feel recharged and ready to go!
Being an entertainer is such an odd ordeal. It's impossible to do this job at half speed. Going full tilt is the best way to bring smiles to others.
This life isn't for everyone. Even though I'm built for this, I'm still human. I can't remember the last time I didn't work for an entire week, much less 10 days.
This reminds me of the phrase "sharpen the saw," popularized by Stephen Covey. The principal is a lot to unpack, but here it is in a nutshell:
Imagine there are two men, each sawing down a thick tree of equal size. Halfway through, the saws become dull. The first guy continues to grind away to not lose time. The second guy stops and sharpens his saw before continuing. Despite the second person taking a break, because of his sharpened saw, both men finish at the same time. The first guy is drenched in sweat, sore, and gassed. The second guy is ready for the next challenge.
This is a philosophy I need to keep reminding myself about. I think it's a good one, and I thought I'd share.
Now that my saw is sharpened, I'm ready to shred my accordion so hard it melts people's faces off. Come see a show at your own discretion. 🤣
