We’re delighted to share that The Hague’s contemporary art space @nestruimte will be doing a new show series, Nest Radio, at our platform. NEST RADIO - EP. 1: THE SINGING PARLIAMENT For the first episode of Nest Radio, Samira Ben Messaoud talks to artist Henk Schut. His exhibition The Singing Parliament can be seen until July 7 at Nest in Laak on the Verheeskade. It is an installation of 150 loudspeakers, each with its own voice, as many as there are seats in the House of Representatives. These different voices and sounds create a constant series of soundscapes that you can walk through, sit or lie down in. The basis for The Singing Parliament is the piece Deus venerunt gentes by the English composer William Byrd. Byrd wrote the play in the late sixteenth century, when the Roman Catholic faith was banned in England. In the composition Byrd incorporated his criticism of war and the destruction of holy places. The text can also be seen as an expression of the religious and political tensions in England at the time. Byrd, himself a Catholic, used the power of music to express his voice, despite the risk of persecution himself. Schut supplements Byrd’s music with a series of sounds from his inexhaustible sound archive, which sound from homemade speakers. Schut thus builds a bridge to the present with his own parliament in sound. With the ‘real’ House of Representatives around the corner, Schut’s installation raises questions about democracy, whose voice is heard and which sounds remain invisible or unheard. - Check out this show and more on pipradio.nl Link in bio.

- Gamma Intel (@grammaintel ) usually doesn’t stick to a single genre or any conventional rules of DJ’ing and his mix for The Lockers was no different. The Rotterdam based artist showcased the art of musical storytelling with a mix of impactful rhythms, broken beat drum grooves and attitude driven techno. - LEFF.DEFF’s (@leff.deff ) set consists of UK and Dutch influenced music with a special focus on music from the Hague, west coast electro, bubbling and (unreleased) tracks from local artists. - KI/IP (@kip_enzo ) is an Electro, Break and Ghetto DJ hailing from The Hague in the Netherlands. His style is defined by the combination of hard Breakbeat and Fast Electronic sounds, backed up by dirty Hip Hop lyrics. - Sturmkid (@sturmkid ) came by with a little foray into some rhythms that have been forgotten on the shelves. Dreamy B-sides, old abandoned UK rhythms, scratchy gutters and above all a bit of fun. - Imre Fekkes (@imrefekkes ) is the driving force behing Loslippig (@loslippig ),a new event that focuses on getting young people to talk more comfortably about sex. We interviewed her about her motives behind creating Loslippig and also talked about sex in general and its meaning in society. - Arantxa Polak (@arantxa_polak ) must have more than 24 hours in a day considering the variety of things she does. She is educating people about drugs through volunteer organization Unity and works as a Health Promotion Officer at mental health care organization Indigo Preventie amongst many other things. - 17 years ago Patty Broese van Groenou was part of the team that created PIP Den Haag. She has been a pioneer with an eye for finding creative solutions to societal matters and she’s been active for over 30 years as a projectmanager, policymaker, concept developer, strategist and programmer for our city and other regions. - Check out these show and more on pipradio.nl

The programme for the Lockers #3 - Ammani M (@annika.medin ) has been on our radar since her uniquely curated show ‘Hiatus’ for PIP Radio, so we had to invite the young DJ to do a dj set for our third installment of the Lockers. She delivered to say the least, coming through with a cross-generational and transatlantic orientated sound full of turns and twists. - Nathan Homan (@nathanhoman.tozo ) and Jelly (@jellylynn ) have long been trustworthy B2B partners and friends and have their musical instincts intertwined for years now. You’ll be sure to notice that in their set for our platform, in which they’ll take you off your couch right into your living room’s dancefloor with uptempo magic across the spectrum of house, electro and no-nonsense techno. - Maylen (@malan.maylen ) concentrates on driving techno, ranging from hypnotic sounds to low-end grooves, but also has a love for the deeper side of house and progressive trance, which often share space within their mixes. This mix was no different and will bring you in a hypnotic state of mind. - Finally, we interviewed Clemens Wildschut (@clefw ), a 27-year-old photographer from The Hague. He started photographing techno parties in 2017 and now even photographs internationally.
