Interstellar Food Drive is back. https://fb.me/e/3NGSOayBR It's always a bittersweet feeling putting on these. It's great to see everyone come together for a very worthy cause, watching live music, enjoying themselves and paying what suits their situation. But the fact that an event like this seems viable yet again is truly disheartening. Times are tougher than they have ever been in most of our living memories at the moment. Austerity has taken its toll and the cost of living for anyone who doesn't own a luxury apartment in a capital city is becoming more than is comfortable to bear. With this, inevitably, comes the increased dependence on food banks. When the dilemma of whether to heat your house or feed your kids is a genuine one for a significant number of people, something needs to change. We can't run for government, we'll never live to see the day a reptile is in number 10, but what we can do is bring people together, help raise awareness and hopefully a tonne of food for @Portsmouth Food Bank. What we achieve may be a drop in the ocean, but this organisation puts food on people's tables tirelessly and with your help this can be made easier. Last time we managed to raise 1307kg of food and toiletries. This was an incredibly humbling thing to see. Watching you turn up with bags swelling with non-perishable food and toiletries truly made a difference. Unsurprisingly, the Conservatives have yet again made some truly abhorrent decisions which tighten the purse strings further, whilst the rich get richer. I'll be honest, I never supported their "cause" and didn't think I could hate them more. Yet again, they proved me wrong. This does mean, however, that maybe you won't be able to bring quite as much as a donation this time around. That's fine. The ethos of this event is that it is open to all, no matter what you donate. Everything is appreciated. It also wouldn't be very fitting with said ethos if we were to shame those who can't bring as much as others. So, we've teamed up with some wonderful people yet again; Strong Island Recordings Velvet Candy Mark Kellett Art and vol. promo to bring you quite a ruddy lot for the price of a can of beans.
