On Friday, my new single will be arriving. I thought I’d give a little background behind the track ✨
I’ve always liked to tell stories through my songwriting, and not just my own. In the past, I’ve written songs to help me empathise with other people and understand what they might be going through and feeling. Back in January, I went to see the
@priscillamovie and inspired me to write a song which became ‘One Good Thing’.
The track is about slowly losing your identity for the benefit of somebody else. In Priscilla’s story, Elvis was much older and very successful which would’ve been intimidating, to say the least. In the film, you can see how Priscilla starts to lose herself, especially when her husband tells her what to wear and how to behave. As a viewer, you slowly watch her change.
After spending a great chunk of her early life not feeling good enough, it took some time for Priscilla to embrace who she really was and live her life accordingly, which was a brave move to make, especially back in the 70s.
I really hope you like the new track and the story that it tells. As I said, it’s loosely based on Priscilla & Elvis’s story, but I’d like to think it can be applied to other people’s stories about finding their true identity.
