When I was younger I had an atypical version of Diamonds and Toads read to me at night. One where the girls were twins, and thus there was no contest of who’s prettier. One where the protagonist fell out of love with the love interest just as fast as she fell in love after realizing he only wanted her for the gem stone “blessing.” One where the mean character learned to weaponize her curse and dared to send venomous snakes and toads at the people who didn’t let her get her way. One where the two had to settle their differences and work together on the end. It always stuck with me. I’m still shocked to learn that this wasn’t the version most people grew up with, that their lesson was “so good and be rewarded” not “every decision you make can be twisted to have a different outcome.” Idk.
Unrelated but jfc look at how many hours I spent on this (I was STRUGGLING. It’s still not my favourite but hey it’s done). I’m gonna go take a nap on a bog to recover.
