Almost two years ago, we left our home on #galvestonisland . I never miss it more than on #juneteenth . I’m sharing on our visits to the home of Juneteenth, #ashtonvilla - a beautiful building on its own, but more importantly, where the Union General finally declared that all slaves were free; far too long after the Emancipation Declaration.
In 2021, the country and #galveston marked the sesquicentennial of this extraordinary event. An incredible mural was painted down on the strand to mark the occasion.
I’m so glad that this has become a national holiday. If one is not free, none is free.
I celebrate Juneteenth as I think all Americans should.
Find your vacation space this summer even if it’s only in a simple space in the sun for the afternoon. Sometimes, it’s more a state of mind than anything else.
