Choreographer Veronica Beattie-George returned to THEatreBRIDGE, leading the cohort in a day of storytelling movement and character-driven staging. Starting with a focus on the simplicity of movement as an ensemble unit, the group explored how finely tuned clarity can bring great dramatic power to theatrical storytelling. Veronica also gave a costume design presentation for an imagined production of Gigi. The silhouette of the 1890s French upper class gentry, with their corsetry, bustles, top hats, and frock coats, then influenced the choreographic ideas and actors’ movement. Putting these ideas into action, the company staged part of a production number which highlighted the importance of succinct clarity and character choices appropriate to the era. Veronica discussed how sustainability as an artist is strengthened by remembering that we always have something new to learn.
