Today, we have something special for you - an interview with Vladimír Suchý himself about his new game Resafa (find also on @boardgamegeek website): How was Resafa arised? The first thoughts I had were based on a mechanism of choosing cards and colours in the game. As well as always I was thinking about the topic and then I remembered visiting of Syrian city Resafa. The next development continued with implementing the topic to the main mechanism. I concentrated mostly on things such as trade, building of workshops, gardens and water channels, which the desert city needs the most. Why Resafa? I visited Resafa with my wife on our first holiday more than 20 years ago. We celebrate the 20th anniversary this year, so not only the amazing memories of the place were the reason for this topic this year. What is the main mechanism of the game? The main mechanism is inspired by my previous title Underwater cities. It is the oppposite of the main mechanism used in UC. In UC there are actions on the main board and cards are placed to the actions, whereas in Resafa the player has action cards in his hand and gain the bonus cards by the colours of the actions, which brings a different experience and many interesting decisions. There are almost 200 different cards in the game and in consequence there is a big space for combining. Can you compare Resafa to other games published by DG? I would say that in comparison to Evacuation and Woodcraft Resafa is a little less complex. The game is also not that tight, there are many points, bonuses and resources. And finally, when we can expect Resafa to be published? At the moment we are in the process of testing for the purpose of balancing the game and the graphic design. As usual you can look forward to seeing Resafa at Spiel'24 in Essen.
Sounds very interesting!
