Wingspan Asia is the third expansion for the hit game Wingspan. 🦅
This new expansion’s main addition to the game is a standalone 2-player mode a mode for 6-7 players. Basically, it covers both ends of the spectrum. 🦆
I have a confession. I’m not the biggest Wingspan fan. I personally don’t get as much out of the game as others seem to. I don’t hate it but I think it’s just okay. I was interested in trying the 2-player mode because I love 2-player games and most of the time, I play games at 2. 🐥🐣
The mode introduces a central map board. Each time someone plays a bird, they get to put a token onto the map and sometimes get a bonus. At the end of the game, players gain points for connected tokens on the map. 🕊️
It’s a nice addition and doesn’t change up the main gameplay too much. I do like it better but honestly I like the game better at 2 anyways because it’s faster. 🦉
It’s a cool expansion. I appreciate the new way to play and also having it be fully compatible with the base game and other expansions. They could have made a 2-player wingspan that is not compatible with the base game, slapped the word “duel” on it, and called it a day. They didn’t. Which is great. 🦜
They did, however, call it “duet”… but… I don’t know why. It’s not a duet. It’s a competitive game so the word “duet” is just an odd choice. Also, the player pieces fit together perfectly and they are the exact size as a spot on the map. Yet… they aren’t meant to go together. And why are they halves of the yin and yang symbol? I understand it’s an Asia expansion but yin and yang yet again implies it’s a cooperative mode. It’s not a huge deal but it’s weird. 🦚
Overall, it didn’t improve my feelings for the game but I do think that fans of the game will really appreciate the new modes, cards, and of course a new color of eggs. If you’re a Wingspan player, there’s a lot to like here. If you’re like me, this won’t change your mind. 🦩
