WHAT TIME IS HEAVEN? The booklet “WHAT TIME IS HEAVEN”, 2024, contains are a series of still photographs taken by American artist Rachel Rose (*1986) throughout the spaces of the Fondation Beyeler that we all see and don’t pay much attention to: the bathrooms, the elevator, the hallways – dramatizing the simplest landscapes in haze, backlit, silhouetted in shadows, imagining more ephemeral possibilities for what at first glance appears real and mundane. The work of Rachel Rose explores in a poetical way, how we experience infinite space and time through the most finite, basic methods as she draws from, and contributes to, a long history of cinematic innovation with her art. The exhibition is organized by Fondation Beyeler in partnership with LUMA Foundation. #FondationBeyeler #BeyelerExhibition #RachelRose Credits: Fondation Beyeler, Riehen/Basel, 2024, Rachel Rose, What time is heaven, 2024, © Rachel Rose

A continuous horizon through the blue hues of Van Gogh to Hodler to Max Ernst to Wolfgang Tilmans. Another highlight from Fondation Beyeler (@fondationbeyeler ) from our special tour with Mouna Mekouar (@mounamekouar ). Realized by Tino Sehgal, who thought about the history and distance between paintings. From way back, when paintings used to be hung salon-style, one on top of another, to today, where the gaps between works are becoming larger and larger. By eliminating the space between paintings and treating the exhibition as a living organism that constantly changes, the works allow us to think instead about connection. Connection between time, connection between works, and the growing space between us as humans as well. The show is on view through August 11, 2024.

💊 Do you dare to take the red pill? Dropping from the ceiling every three seconds on the floor of the exhibition space, Carsten Höller’s installation “PILL CLOCK”, 2015 is daring you to take one of these coloured pills. Around three seconds is the time frame we perceive as ‘present’. Höller’s take on the passing of time is as crucial in his work as questions about the perception and duration of happiness. Visit the current exhibition “THE LATENESS OF THE HOUR”, take one of the pills from Höller’s “PILL CLOCK” and find out, whether it affects your relation to space, time and the dreams that follow! Experience this and other fascinating works by 30 artists in the current exhibition “THE LATENESS OF THE HOUR” at the Fondation Beyeler until August 11, 2024! The exhibition is organized by Fondation Beyeler in partnership with LUMA Foundation. #FondationBeyeler #BeyelerExhibition #TheLatenessOfTheHourExhibition #CarstenHöller Credits: Carsten Höller (*1961), Pill Clock (red and white pills), 2015, Gelatine capsules, placebo, mechanical drop mechanism, control unit, acrylic box, water dispenser, Installation view, Courtesy the Artist Peter Fischli / David Weiss, Dünger, etc., 1997/2016, 2 wooden shelfs, accumulation of fertilizers, et al. Happy “Tag der Architektur” The Fondation Beyeler is considered one of the world's most beautiful museums. Its location in the middle of our blooming park, surrounded by vivid ponds and its views of cornfields, grazing cows, vineyards, and the foothills of the Black Forest, is unique. The building was designed by renowned architect Renzo Piano and is elegantly integrated into this stunning landscape in the most impressive combination of nature, art, and architecture. Especially, our current exhibition "THE LATENESS OF THE HOUR" at the Fondation Beyeler, for which not only the entire museum but also the park and surrounding landscape have transformed into the site of an experimental exhibition of contemporary art, shows us how fascinating this interplay between nature, art and architecture can be. The exhibition "THE LATENESS OF THE HOUR" is organized by the Fondation Beyeler in partnership with LUMA Foundation and is on show until August 11, 2024 at the Fondation Beyeler. #FondationBeyeler #BeyelerArchitecture #BeyelerRenzoPiano #WorldArchitectureDay #FujikoNakaya Credits: Fujiko Nakaya (*1933), Untitled, 2024, Potable water, 600 Meefog nozzles, High pressure pump motor system, Installation view, Courtesy of the Artist Photo: @donhon

Do you recognize this voice? The work "ALTO", 2024, by Brazilian artist Cildo Meireles (*1948) evokes universal themes that are conveyed to the audience through physical, cerebral and sensory elements. His installations are often based on political and philosophical concepts. In the exhibition space of the Fondation Beyeler, which was specially created by Meireles for the current exhibition "HOME OF THE STRANGER", a famous voice can be heard from the four custom-made speakers. It is the distinctive voice of Íris Lettiere, known to many through her television and radio presence and, of course, her legendary announcements at Rio de Janeiro airport. On entering the room, this sound and visual sculpture opens up different layers of meaning, constantly reshaping the experience of time and memory. Experience this and other fascinating works by 30 artists in the current exhibition "HOME OF THE STRANGER" at the Fondation Beyeler until August 11, 2024! The exhibition is organized by Fondation Beyeler in partnership with LUMA Foundation. #FondationBeyeler #BeyelerExhibition #BeyelerHomeOfTheStranger #BeyelerMeireles #IrisLettiere #CildoMeireles Credits: Cildo Meireles (*1948), Alto, 2024, Wood and speakers, Installation view, Cildo Meireles' Collection Photo: @mark_niedermann

Every June, I make the pilgrimage to Basel. Some may say it’s for the namesake art fair, but for me, Fondation Beyeler (@fondationbeyeler ) is always the first stop. The twenty minute tram is the perfect reset, a chance to leave the work and stress behind, and clearing my mind for an afternoon with some of the best art in one of the best museums. This year, I had the privilege of walking with curator Mouna Mekouar (@mounamekouar ) through their ever-evolving show. Today, it’s titled “HOME OF THE STRANGER”. Tomorrow, who knows what creative titles are in store. The same goes for the museum interior, with works changing by the hour. From Monet to Mondrian, Warhol to Armitage and Dumas, art handlers dolly the works around, rehanging the show in front of visitors’ eyes. It’s more “living organism” than art exhibition, and alters any traditional notion of what an exhibition can be. Watch through for highlights from the show, which is on view through August 11, 2024.
