The idea was simple; connect talented people in low-income communities to high paying jobs in tech.
We knew that in the era of remote work, $100 laptops, and near ubiquitous Wi-Fi, more people, regardless of where or how they were born, could build a career in IT.
But turning an idea into reality is never easy.
This video shares our origin story, and how for three years we’ve been both adding value to markets hungry for digital talent while also breaking generational cycles of poverty.
Amazing education partners like @oracle and @aluraonline help us provide quality training, generous donors help us cover the cost of facilities, equipment, and scholarships, and more companies around the world are hiring our graduates.
We have big plans for 2024, but we can’t do it alone.
If you’re inspired by @plataformaimpact and would like to donate, hire a graduate, or just learn more, please send me a message or visit

Experience of a lifetime jumping off a 100 meter (300+ foot) waterfall in Brazil 🇧🇷
Thank you to my grande amigo @carlosmaciel for inspiring me, and @saltodependulo and @naturalextremobrasil for such an incredible adventure!
In the end, life is made up of experiences, and the intensity of those experiences.
Selflessness is among the highest of human virtues, and when I visited the Cologne Cathedral, which took over 600 years to finish, I couldn’t help but feel that is exactly what made it possible.
Thousands of people, knowing they’d never see the end product, working to build this towering piece of beauty (500+ feet) dedicated to something bigger than themselves.
I’ve been wanting to visit it for years, thanks to my brother @arminbruni and just like Germany overall, it surpassed my expectations in every way. It left me speechless. Bis bald Deutschland 🇩🇪✌🏼
#repost American political scientist and social entrepreneur Gary Carrier arrived at Galeão airport three years ago with 12 laptops in his bag and an idea in his head: turn young people from the Rocinha favela into IT professionals.
The project was successful – and is gaining scale.
An NGO with startup DNA, @plataformaimpact has already trained more than 330 students, who today earn five times or more what they previously earned as motorcycle taxis and app delivery workers.

Recently, we hosted a tech event in Brazil’s biggest favela with some of the industry’s biggest thinkers to talk about coding, mentorship, and building a career in IT.
We started by asking current students, “how many of you knew a programmer before you joined Plataforma?” One hand went up. “How many of you know one now?” Everyone raised their hand.
That’s why @plataformaimpact exists. To create more and more examples that prove it doesn’t matter where or how you were born, anyone can build a career in tech.
Talent is everywhere, even if opportunity isn’t. But tech helps to bridge the gap, and events like this inspire the journey.
Huge thanks to @alescaldeiraa@paulo_hipster@rafaelcosta@arthuralentejo@mayara__rosario@raigx@coxta.media@agenciawhop@mirante.rocinha Fino and everyone else who made it possible.
Today I’m a year older, and I feel good.
I’m thankful for where I‘ve been, excited for where I’m going, pleased with what I’ve accomplished, and proud of who I’m building with.
As I embark on another year and reflect on the last one, I feel grateful for those who have helped me along the way.
Last year I struggled, but they say the valleys are where we shed the old self so the new self can emerge.
In the end, it’s about growth.
Socrates said that the purpose of life is the perfection of our souls - to realize the goodness that the soul longs for.
I don’t know if that’s true, but I do know the higher you climb, the better the view.
So, that’s where I’m headed.
Thank you, gracias, obrigado for the birthday wishes.
On to new levels 🥂📈🎉
