Past weekend I saw I’ve already managed to play 99 different board games and I wanted to play a special one for my 100th 🤩. We both felt like starting a new campaign game and since we love Sleeping Gods by @redravengames we decided to give Sleeping Gods: Primeval Peril a go 😉. Primeval Peril is also set in the world of The Wandering Sea and takes place before the events of Sleeping Gods. It’s a shorter campaign for 1 to 2 players in which you try to rescue a disappeared crew member. The first thing you’ll notice is that the atlas and map is much smaller than in the original. However, this didn’t affect us having fun for one second ☺️. If you’ve ever played and liked Sleeping Gods you’ll be happy to know that Primeval Peril incorporates almost all of the mechanisms from the original 🤩. The biggest change can be found in the way you do combat, which we found to be a huge improvement upon the original 😉. We’re about 3 hours into our campaign and think we’ll reach the end in about 2 more 😉. Darwin’s Journey by @thundergryphgames is one of those board games that has been on our “want-to-play” list for quite some time and now we finally managed to play it 🤩. It was obvious, when a friend of ours asked if we wanted to play Darwin’s Journey we immediately said “Yes!” 😂. Boy! This one didn’t disappoint at all. Even though our session lasted about 3 hours with 4 players, we enjoyed every minute of it. You’re constantly thinking about your next move as the state of the board is constantly changing ☺️. There are a ton of actions you can take and choosing the correct one is essential as this can start a chain reaction of even more actions for you to take. Such a combo feels fulfilling and satisfying, especially if you cut off an opponent 🤩. Have you already played Savernake Forest, or Bosbuit in Dutch, by @999games 🐿? In Savernake Forest you must help the animals prepare for winter by guiding them to their favorite type of food such as eggs or berries. You do this by connecting cards containing paths and food to their den ☺️. You have to strategically place these cards because each animal can only store a certain amount of food in their den. We really liked Savernake Forest as it is easy to learn and play, while also providing an interesting and fun puzzle for you to solve ☺️. Habitats 🗣: @allplayhq 🧠: Corné van Moorsel 👥: 1-5 👶: 10+ ⏱: 30-50’ The sun is rising and you’re ready to get in your jeep for that trip to the local wildlife park. If this sounds like a fun time to you then Habitats might be a game for you. In Habitats you’re building your own wildlife park by creating the right environments for all kinds of different animal species. Habitats is played over 3 rounds in which all players take the same amount of turns determined by the number of players. To start you fill up the central grid with tiles and place each player’s jeep into that grid. Randomly choose 2 Round Objective Tiles for each of the 3 rounds. During your turn you can move your jeep forward or to the left or right on the condition there is a tile there. Place that tile into your wildlife park and draw a new one from the bag to place in the spot your jeep just has driven out of. At the end of each round all players see how well they’ve scored according to the current round objectives before moving on to the next one. After 3 rounds all players count up points they’ve scored for round objectives, animals, flowers and buildings. The player who has scored the most points has built the most animal-friendly wildlife park and is crowned the winner. 👍 Easy to learn with manual 👍 Production is topnotch 👍 Screen-printed wooden animal tokens as add-on 👍 Fun and interesting puzzle 👍 Need to think ahead 👍 Competitive due to end-of-round goals 👍 Player interaction 👍 Solo mode 🧔🏻‍♂️ Mr. & Ms. Meeple 👩🏼 Habitats was a hit at our table. As fans of tile placement games Habitats is another one that’ll stay in our collection to play more often in the future. Unmatched Adventures: Tales to Amaze 🗣: @iellogames & @restorationgames 🧠: Jason Hager & Darren Reckner 👥: 1-4 👶: 9+ ⏱: 20-60’ In Unmatched Adventures: Tales to Amaze players work together to drive back the evil that’s threatening their town. Unmatched Adventures is played over a series of rounds until players defeat the villain, all player characters are defeated or until the villain completes its objective for the 4th time. Players choose their characters and the enemies they want to face. Revealed Initiative Cards randomly determine turn order. During your turn you perform 2 actions such as Maneuver (draw a card and move), Scheme (execute a Scheme Card) or Attack. Enemies take only one action by moving to the closest player character to attack. Draw a card from the enemy’s deck and resolve the attack by revealing both their and your card (if you decide to defend). If an enemy can’t reach a player character, you move the Threat Marker forward on the Threat Track bringing the villain closer to completing its objective. Perform all end-of-round effects on the bottom half of the Initiative Cards once everyone has taken a turn. Even people who don’t like the competitive head-to-head playing style from before, now have a way to enjoy Unmatched. Taking down a villain and its minions by working together is so much fun. A design decision we really applaud is the fact that we can also include characters from other sets in our collection, which pushes variety and replayability to a whole new level. We’re definitely eager for more villains and Unmatched Adventures in the future. Meanwhile we’ll be fighting Mothman with Medusa, Robin Hood or any of the other characters. Full review on BGG.
