T E N B Y | NOW ON KICKSTARTER! Step into the quaint and colorful streets of Tenby, Wales, in this Action & card drafting & placement game. With each turn, players must carefully select cards from a display and strategically place them to create rows that adhere to strict placement rules. Actions drafted for a round also shape turn order for subsequent rounds, reminding me a bit of Kingdomino which I really like. Points are gained and maximised based on adjacency with neighboring houses in your tableau. I find the artwork really charming and really brightens up (and eats up) the gaming table with the cheerful cards featuring iconic landmarks and houses of the Welsh town. But don’t be fooled by its good looks, this was surprisingly quite a brain-burner in a small box! T H E R E D C A T H E D R A L | This is a fun one! 🎲 In The Red Cathedral, we play architects who have been commissioned to build different sections of the famous St. Basil Cathedral in Moscow. Using a very interesting rondel mechanic in the centre board, players strategically move dice around the wheel and combo with their workshops on their player boards to get resources to fulfil their builds. It’s quite good and I really enjoyed it. Unsurprisingly, my wife beat the bricks out of me in our first game. T O K I A D O D U O | The past two months have just been absolutely insane at work hence the recent silence on this ‘gram. Hope things cool off soon so I can get some games in and some postin’ going. All work and no play makes Jack a sorry sad-ass. “Tokaido: Duo,” a board game set in beautiful landscapes of Shikoku, Japan. It offers a delightful journey with three distinct characters - Merchant, Artist & Pilgrim. Each with their own movements and objectives that intersect from time to time. The game stands out for its easy rules and immersive experience, complemented by stunning artwork capturing traditional Japanese culture. The well-thought-out scoring system rewards players’ engagement and reflects their progress through the island. Just like the original Tokiado, it’s a nice enjoyable two-player game that is not stressful or demanding. It’s on the lighter side which frankly is all I seem to have time for these days.
