🎲 The dice that started it all 🎲 Happy birthday, #howwerollwednesday ! Today is one year since @buryboardgames started this lovely hashtag, and what a year it has been. The theme was chosen by Craig @midlandmeeple and he appropriately chose “The dice that started it all” 🎲 My “career” as a hobby gamer started in different phases, but the game that really got me going was Wingspan by @stonemaiergames . A lot of games have come and gone since, but @elizharg ’s bird watching game is one of the few that keeps me coming back. (And no, the dice was not taken Yesterday 😅) Which game started your collection? #howwerollwednesday #communityhashtag #dice #wingspan #dicingthroughthesnow

👽Preview: Pandora Celeste 👽 “Space… It seems to go on forever… But then you get to the end and the monkey starts throwing barrels at you!” - Philip J. Fry, Futurama. This is not really what’s going on in Pandora Celeste, but it does take place in space and has a bit of the same feeling that Futurama has, only with more dying and more really scary aliens that are coming for you. In Pandora Celeste, you are crew members that wake up in the ship’s cryo chamber, awoken by an alert from the computer. The ship has been taken over by aliens - known as nasties - and the emergency protocol is in effect. This is supposed to protect the ship’s cargo, though, not its crew. In the course of the game’s campaign, you’ll play action cards, fight nasties and maybe even each other. Because as in any good sci-fi horror movie, there might be someone in your crew that’s working against the rest. Now, I realize that this might sound an awful lot like another game, Nemesis. And these two games do have things in common, but with some distinct differences. The first one is the box. Other than it being a gazillion times more colorful than Nemesis, Pandora Celeste’s box is also its board. The box unfolds, you see, and make up the ship in a very cool way - hopefully it’s clear in the pictures. The other one is that Pandora Celeste is actually fun, rather than clunky and fiddly. For one thing, you have control over the amount of noise you make when moving around the ship - and can actually use it to your advantage. And that’s also the best thing about Pandora Celeste: It feels like you’re in control. You can still get your butt kicked, but when you do, it feels like you did because you made a wrong decision - not because you got unlucky on a dice roll. Pandora Celeste is a delight to play. It might not reinvent the wheel, but it does make it run more freely than I have seen in a long time. If you’re looking for a - as the box reads - gleeful homage to sci-fi monster movies, look no further. Pandora Celeste hits Gamefound on July 9th and I highly recommend you go check it out. #kickstarter #boardgames #survivalgames #boardgamesinspace #pandoraceleste #boardgamesofinstagram

☀️ Vacation Time! ☀️ Today marked the first day of my three weeks off work for the summer, and tomorrow we’re heading towards the Alps on vacation. That means that it’s time for one of the highlights of the year: the “how many games can I fit in this box” challenge. This year, I managed to fit eight games into the box from Coffee Rush, and I’m quite pleased with myself! Which games do you bring on vacation? #boardgames #boardgamegeek #geekyholiday #brettspiele #brætspil #juegosdemesa #jeuxdesociété

🕵️‍♂️ Thematic Thursday Victoriana 🕵️‍♂️ Victorian board games, you say, @thetoyscoop ? Well then I say Sherlock Solitaire! This lovely little card game is thick with victorian illustrations, nefarious crimes and the world’s greatest detective. In Sherlock Solitaire, you play as everyone’s favorite victorian detective - Sherlock Holmes. Each round, you draw four cards that you have to play in the office and at the crime scene. The cards in the office have to form sets, while the ones in the crime scene trigger actions, which can both good or bad. It’s tense, dark and packed with ambience, just as the source material - and it’s hard as the cobblestones of London. In each game, you have to solve a case and if you don’t achieve that in time - meaning before you get three or more wounds - you lose. Sherlock Solitaire is, as the name suggests a game that is probably best when played solo. There is a two player mode as well, but I would probably prefer to play it solo. That experience, though, is really good. The artwork on the cards gives the game that ambience I mentioned and actually makes it feel like you’re solving cases while playing and moving cards. I highly recommend it for a quick solo game! Full disclosure: The nice people at @wisewizardgames gave me my copy of Sherlock Solitaire. This hasn’t influenced my opinion, though. #boardgamesofinstagram #brädspel #brettspiele #boardgames #thematicthursday #sherlockholmes #solitairegames

🐲 Faceoff Round 3 - Table Presence 🐣 Alright, party people! It’s 1-1 going into the final round of my face-off against @meeplecards . This is the promised second Wingspan-whammy of today, as Wingspan faces off against Wyrmspan. A span-off, you might even say? As I said this morning, Wingspan is one of my favorites and one of the first games that I got when my hobby gaming started to take off. I love discovering the birds, building an engine with them and the way that it looks on the table. Wyrmspan is one of those games that I have not yet dived into. At first, I was a bit hesitant because I thought it was just a reskin, but after seeing it played a couple of times, I think I might have to go get myself a copy 😄 Do you like birds or dragons more? Head over to @meeplecards ’ story to vote. This month’s #boardgamefaceoff is a rematch with my opponents from January, the always friendly Nicole and Kai over at @meeplecards . I lost then, but am hopeful about my chances for this month, which focuses on table presence. Full disclosure: The nice people at @iv___games sent me my copy of Fractured Sky. This hasn’t influenced my opinion, though. #boardgames #boardgamesofinstagram #boardgamefaceoff #brettspiele #brætspil #brädspel

🎲 Animal Dice 🎲 Today is a bit of a double Wingspan-whammy for me. The first of the two whammies is for #howwerollwednesday , where @pink_meeple and @nane_spielt_in_ffm both suggested animal dice. That gave me the opportunity to bring out one of my absolute favorite games: Wingspan by @elizharg and the lovely people at @stonemaiergames . This game fits a lot of my criteria for a good board game: It’s accessible, it has engine building and it plays well at several different player counts - and it looks sooo pretty in the Danish sunrise ☀️ I previously argued that Wingspan is probably at its best while being played solo, because it can be an almost serene experience that mimics the feeling of bird watching. But if you want to play a multiplayer game, I will never say no 😊 What’s the second whammy, you say? You’ll have to wait till later today to find out. I can say that it has something to do with the birds going up against some dragons 🫢 #howwerollwednesday #boardgames #wingspan #birdwatching #birds #boardgamesofinstagram #boardgamegeek #brætspil #brettspiele #juegosdemesa

🌬️ Faceoff Round 2 - Table Presence 🌊 A narrow loss in the first round, as @meeplecards ’ Flamecraft dragons beat my space cats from Mlem. We move on to the next round with a battle of the elements - Underwater Cities vs Fractured Sky! My entry, Fractured Sky, is perhaps the most blinged-out game in my collection. From the miniatures to the magnet discs that go under your airships, the production is just insane. And it’s a production that makes sense - it’s not just bling for bling’s sake. It is going to get a run for its money, though, from Kai and Nicole’s Underwater Cities. Those domes look absolutely brilliant 🤩 As always, it’s up to you: Underwater Cities or Fractured Sky? Go to my story to vote. This month’s #boardgamefaceoff is a rematch with my opponent from January, @meeplecards . I lost then, but am hopeful about my chances for this month, which focuses on table presence. Full disclosure: The nice people at @iv___games sent me my copy of Fractured Sky. 🏕️ Mystery Monday Expansions 🏕️ It’s mooondaaaay! And that means that it’s time for everyone’s favorite hashtag challenge: #mysterymonday🎲 This week, @rolldraworplay have chosen “Expansions” as the theme, and I have gone for one of my favorite expansions - I actually think that it’s mandatory for this game. But do you recognize the starry skies or the tents that conveniently obscure the title? #mysterymonday🎲 #guessthegame #boardgamesofinstagram #boardgames #brætspil
