What an awesome month which was crowned with the SPIEL Messe in Essen. With great company of @_yourboardgamers , @doktor_brett and @meeple_check I had the chance to try out a lot of new games, but also some goldies. Two games that confirmed to be one of my favorite games: Terrorscape and Black Rose Wars ❤️ The biggest surprise: Hansa Teutonica with 5 players. Boy, did we have a lot of fun debates over a bunch of colored cubes. Fists were almost flying 😂 The weakest game in the list: World Wonders was not too bad, but somehow it did not hit the right spot for me due to the frustration of not completing my cities and wonders before the other players. 😤 #boardgame #boardgames #brettspiele #boardgamegeek #bgg #tabletopgames #boardgamer #boardgamesofinstagram #boardgamenight #boardgameaddict #boardgamegeeks #boardgamers #boardgamephotography #boardgameday #boardgamephotos #boardgamegeek #boardgamecommunity #boardgamesrule #boardgamelife #boardgameart #boardgamesnight #boardgamedesign #iloveboardgames

Ok boardgame community, we need to talk. Why was my first game of Twilight Imperium such a bad experience? Let me try to put my impressions together. And no, normally I am not starting off with the negative points, but I need to get this off my chest now. The biggest problem that got stuck in my head was the tremendous amount of text. Text. Just text everywhere. On the strategy cards, on the technology cards, on the contracts, and so on. Before you can do something you need to read first. You want to attack someone? You need to read first. You might say now, that's because I am new to the game, but isn't it just really bad game design if barely no symbol is used that you can easily recognize from the other side of the table? The next thing might be a bit exaggerated, but I was surprised that such an epic game comes with the same ship miniatures for all factions. That was really a downer and negatively affected the immersion for me. I already mentioned the amount of text in the game, but this is, unfortunately, also paired with a high number of cards throughout the game making the situation even worse. For me it turned out to be very fiddly organizing my planets for resources or researched technologies. The longer the game lasts, the more the table is covered with cards (of course with text). Let's talk about the combats next. To me they felt very shallow due their shortness. It was not these epic battles that I expected from the game. Moreover, due to the low number of dice throws, randomness can hit you really hard here and your entire fleet is gone in the blink of an eye. And there is even more randomness in the contract cards, which are one of the core elements of the game. While you can get contracts, which are nearly impossible to resolve, other players just discard 5 action cards for example and gain a victory point. Seriously? 🚀 Maracaibo is better than Great Western Trail. Please don't punch me now! 📑 Maracaibo is a strategic game by Alexander Pfister set in the Caribbean during the 17th century. Players take on the roles of explorers, traders, and adventurers, competing to gain wealth and reputation. Through card-driven actions and ship navigation, they engage in trading, combat, and completing missions. Especially the navigation mechanism reminded me a lot of Great Western Trail. The game involves resource management, strategic decisions, and building a narrative as players progress through a campaign-like structure. Victory is achieved by accumulating victory points through various activities and objectives. 👍🏻 The game's campaign-style structure, where choices affect the narrative and outcomes, offers a dynamic and engaging experience. The combination of exploration, trading, and combat mechanics allows for diverse strategies and keeps gameplay interesting. The game's components, artwork, and attention to historical detail also contribute to its appeal, providing an enjoyable blend of theme and gameplay. 👎🏼 Maracaibo comes with relatively complex rules and learning curve, which can be daunting for new players. Additionally, there's a lot of material like wooden cubes and cards which need to be sorted and set up before playing which makes it a bit challenging fot getting it on the table. ➡️ Why I prefer Maracaibo over Great Western Trail? Mainly because of the appealing theme. Instead of transporting cows on a trail you sail through the Caribbean, explore jungles and fight against occupation forces. On top you have a card-driven campaign included that makes you want to fulfill as many side quests as possible. Have you tried both games already and do have a different opinion? #boardgame #boardgames #brettspiele #Maracaibo #dlpgames #boardgamegeek #bgg #tabletopgames #boardgamer #boardgamesofinstagram #boardgamenight #boardgameaddict #boardgamegeeks #boardgamers #boardgamephotography #boardgameday #boardgamephotos #boardgamegeek #boardgamecommunity #boardgamesrule #boardgamelife #boardgameart #boardgamesnight #boardgamedesign #iloveboardgames

🚀 Oh my gosh, I fell in love with boardgames once more! 😍 📑 Pax Pamir is a strategic tableau builder for 1 to 5 players in which everyone assumes the role of an Afghan leader. The players need to form and break coalitions throughout the game with one of the three main factions to succeed in reoccurring dominance checks. Additional abilities can be bought through cards at a central market place. In the end the player with the most victory points wins. 👍🏻 This game is really extraordinary. Already the minimalistic board, which is in fact a small carpet, and the multi-purpose tokens, which can represent armies, routes or spies, tribes and gifts, are an immediate eye-catcher. While the rules are not difficult to learn, the game offers a great strategic depth and incredible dynamics whenever coalitions are formed or broken. Most importantly, the author invested a lot of time to be historically precise and provides a lot of background story on the cards and in the rule book. 👎🏼 There's barely a thing I can complain about. The text on the cards could be a bit bigger so that it is easier to read when being placed at the market or played by another player. Some people might dislike the abstract board, but that's in fact something that I found very fascinating because of its simplicity and easy overview. ➡️ Pax Pamir showed me once more what boardgames are capable of. They can take you to a different world for 3 hours and you will remember the great experience for a long time regardless of winning or losing the game. It immediately entered my top 10 games and will hit the table very often in the future. #boardgame #boardgames #brettspiele #paxpamir #boardgamegeek #bgg #tabletopgames #boardgamer #boardgamesofinstagram #boardgamenight #boardgameaddict #boardgamegeeks #boardgamers #boardgamephotography #boardgameday #boardgamephotos #boardgamegeek #boardgamecommunity #boardgamesrule #boardgamelife #boardgameart #boardgamesnight #boardgamedesign #iloveboardgames

🚀 Here comes your favorite beach game for the upcoming vacation season! 📑 Sea Salt and Paper is a very slim card game for 2 to 4 players in which you try to collect colors and sets faster than your opponent. The goal is to reach at least 7 points, but be beware that the other player might have more points in the end and wins. While collecting your cards you can also play them to trigger little effects like drawing new cards to your hand. 👍🏻 While the game allows for up to four players it perfectly works for a little duel. At some point you realize that there is also the one or the other strategy possible. While the rules are kept simple, the game surprises with a couple of refreshing mechanisms. Needless to say that the artwork is simply amazing! 👎🏼 Even though the little rule book has only 3 short pages it took us two rounds to play everything correctly since not every part of the rules feels intuitive in the first shot. Counting the scores at the end of the round for example depends on the three possible ending scenarios. Another helpful add-on could have been a little writing pad to track the intermediate scores. ➡️ Apart from very minor flaws we had a great time playing Sea Salt and Paper during our vacation at the beach. You wouldn't do anything wrong when putting it into your luggage too! #boardgame #boardgames #brettspiele #seasaltandpaper #boardgamegeek #bgg #tabletopgames #boardgamer #boardgamesofinstagram #boardgamenight #boardgameaddict #boardgamegeeks #boardgamers #boardgamephotography #boardgameday #boardgamephotos #boardgamegeek #boardgamecommunity #boardgamesrule #boardgamelife #boardgameart #boardgamesnight #boardgamedesign #iloveboardgames

🚀 I was a bit sceptical when The Search for Planet X was looking at me in the store since I did want our beloved Cryptid to become obsolete. 📑 The Search for Planet X is a classical deduction game for up to four players that also comes with a very good solo mode. You are an astronomer and try to find the hypothetical, undiscovered ninth planet in our solar system. Via an app you receive more and more hints about its exact location every round and try to localize its position in one of the 12 to 18 sectors on the board. 👍🏻 The game caught us from the very beginning and it was an intense line of reasoning until the first one was able to narrow down the planet's location. Moreover the material has a very good quality and the artwork is simple, but good. What I especially like is that the game's topic has a scientific currentness and tries to reflect the latest ambitions to find the ninth planet as much as possible. 👎🏼 First of all I am not much in favor of app-based games since I enjoy not looking at a screen when playing boardgames. The app is absolutely mandatory and needs to be used every round. This makes it a bit of a solitaire game with only little communication between the players. Mainly because of this, I believe the game gets less interesting the more players you have. ➡️ Did The Search for Planet X kill Cryptid for us? Short answer: no. While Cryptid plays very well with many players and even does not work below 3, The Search for Planet X is the perfect deduction game for two players that do not mind the extensive app usage so much. #boardgame #boardgames #brettspiele #planetx #thesearchforplanetx #boardgamegeek #bgg #tabletopgames #boardgamer #boardgamesofinstagram #boardgamenight #boardgameaddict #boardgamegeeks #boardgamers #boardgamephotography #boardgameday #boardgamephotos #boardgamegeek #boardgamecommunity #boardgamesrule #boardgamelife #boardgameart #boardgamesnight #boardgamedesign #iloveboardgames
